Was trolling Long Reach this weekend in 25-35 fow trying to see if I could hook into a bigger Walleye. I was very surprised to see that I was marking alot of fish. All schooled up and in several different areas suspended anywhere between 10-25 feet. Has to be Walleye right!! Had 3 lines in the water all at different depths when all of a sudden a board went down, and the level wind started screamin. As I got the fish within 50 feet of the boat, all I could hear was BAAAAA BAAAAAA. 10-12 pound Sheephead!!! Is it possible any of these fish I was marking were Walleye, or just schooled up sheeps??

The sheep was alot of fun though!!! :lol:

I am sure some fish could be walleye but more than likely sheep. You will be hard pressed to find big walleye until October. I would say that 90 % of the walleye that are currently in the Bay of Quinte are under 4lbs. Sheep do give a heck of a fight.

Thanks Landshark. I guess I'll stick with my worm harness/bottom bouncer till then. Although, I did get my PB last year in August. (9 pounds) Must of been one of those in that 10%, or s##t a## luck!!! LOL!!!

There are definately some big fish that stick around, getting a 9lber in August is a bigger accomplishment than getting a 12lber in Novermber. Nice work Bud

i hate to say it but i think the shark is bang on, i would think 10 % is actualy kinda high.
look at it this way. the bay is spawning grounds, like salmon, the big fish head out to the lake, and only come into the bay to spawn. i have been doing some research, dont want to give to much of it away, but fish size is related to thermoline, bigger fish, have a better abilty to get air from water, meaning they can go deeper.. your not going to catch a small fish crazy deep because the fish can not survive due to the low oxygen levels.. i am sure it does happen the very rare time... but i am pretty sure your not going to go into a room with no air, just like a fish wont go into water were it cant breath, thats my understanding as why the small fish stay in the bay and the big ones go out to the lake.. i am sure the odds ones stay around.. thermoline is some thing thats still new to me, but now that i know about, i find i seem to see a pattern with it, and it even relates to bass fishing...

dont know what you have for a boat. but i can take you out to the main lake some time if you. only on a nice day of course. and we will hit bass and walleye spots, sorry but i cant make a trip out and not learn some new bass spots out there, its just to much water for me to not try some new bass spots..
