Well, was my first trip may have been my last. First let me say the scenery and the lake is great, but with no Navionics it was challenging to say the least, depth changes are crazy seen depths go from 80 plus feet to 6 feet instantly, humps all over. 120 has humps rise up 80 feet and then disappear back to 120, I know this from my fishing partner driving us into 10 feet of water when I have 2 downriggers down 60 feet. needless to say 2 balls gone, clips and broken cable on both riggers destroyed. But hey that's fishing, used every trick in the book to entice the bite, but the fishing was tough, fished Thursday afternoon from 3:30 till 9:30 PM, Friday from 7:00 am till 6:60pm and Saturday from 6:00 till 5:30 and came up with only 2 small Lakers both no more than a couple pounds. Not cheap fishing 150 for motel (my half), 180 for fuel (boat and truck), food, booze and 2 new lures recommended by world famous laker guide, Frank ???? but must admit my first fish came on the Canoe Pearl 1 dot he recommended. We used the riggers while they lasted, washed at least 60 different spoons, stick baits, flies, MC Rockets wire, leadcore, we fished shallow 30 feet in the middle and on bottom, changed speed, my buddy must have snagged bottom 20 times while running his wire rig, unfortunately this meant we stopped and turned 20 times, he only had 200 feet spooled with no backing, so he complained he didn't want to loose his line, funny he said nothing about the gear I lost. LOL. One of the fish actually came from running a spin doctor followed by a a tom mic fly, green with silver flash. Fish were in the upper 30 feet in morning and by afternoon dropped to the bottom and simply couldn't be enticed into biting. We fished the entrance area to the 2 arms fished the east arm one day and the north arm the next. Covered a lot of water to say the least and with the heat it was 3 days of very tiring fishin. The highlite of the trip was a calf moose coming out of the bush and crossing at the narrows of the northern arm, looked at the boat looked at the opposite shore and started the walk/swim across, we circled for about 10 minutes to watch the crossing and then into the bush it went, damn no guns allowed in the park, could have gotten some meat one way or the other.LOL.

My biggest peeve I had with the long weekend is the number of uneducated kayak and canoeing idiots everywhere, no regard for right of ways, these tree huggers seem to think they have the God given right to cut you off while they try to paddle their way around, create flotillas at every narrow and cluster around the ramps and sit while you circle waiting for them to decide to leave. I think the outfitters have a lot to do with this, not enough training given to these weekend warriors on etiquette and rules of the water, plus the fact it was quite evident that very few had any experience at all at being able to handle and control their craft, had to stop numerous times to wait for canoeist to gain control of their canoe to continue on and clear out of our way.

All in all it was a great weekend, spent the weekend doing what I love to do, had a good buddy for over 40 years with me to catch up, tells lies, drink too much and have a great time.

P.S. by the way we caught a ton of tiny Bass and a small eye out of the river, behind the motel where we stayed.

Sucks that the fishing was slow, I wish I had have seen you first post, I fish in and around the park a few times a month for specks, and I'm heading to Whitney in about 3 hours for some more.

Gene,
Sounds like you should just bite the bullet and become a bass guy. Sorry to hear of the fishing misery but catching up with buds in such a beauty place counts for alot. Let me know when you want to catch some green fish always a spot in the boat for you

if it's a cow it was very tiny, we were about a 1/8 of a mile from it when we shot the pictures, and because of it's size assumed it was a calf, wouldn't have weighed 500 pounds once we got closer. Seen bigger dogs! LOL

Cantcatchacold- story of my life, a day late and a dollar short! LOL.

Dan- GO BASS FISHING! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, OK maybe cause it was you who put forward the invite.
