It totally depends on what you are fishing for. My answer would be significantly different if I'm fishing for salmon or small walleye and everything in between

walleye or bass fishing bud.. i dont think this relates to salmon.. but i dont know never caught a salmon from a boat ever... i just assume at the summer depts all line is hard to see due to the low light conditions down deep.. i know guys that dont use more then 8 pound mono.. i have seen pictures of 25 pound kings he has caught.

i'll run 30lbs braid (as i buy it in bulk) with a 10' flouro lead....likely 15lbs to 20lbs, depending on the size of fish and structure in the area....

however, if the bass are big, they aren't shy....generally...so i just run straight braid....

a hungry bass or walleye won't notice any amount of braid if you are using the right bait.

8 pound braid bare to the lure works for me. Try snapping that with your bare hands, good luck.

I use it all except I stay far away from any fishing stuff you get at the dollar store. Mostly use 30 lb McKoy Braid with Flouro leader.

30lb braid with 20lb floro leader maker tippett. I use that for most applications when trolling walleye. Salmon is different story, most cases depends on the fleas as to what to use.

I use 10Lb Suffix832 and tie directly on the braid with a palomar knot, the last 4 times out I have caught at least 60 sheephead-25 large mouths and 32 walleye all on the bucktail jig.

In lake O i use braid with 10 lb floro, in the bay just straight braid (exception for fall walleye trolling, I add the floro leader).

haha, i would hate to see 2000 lb mono from the dollar store, the 10 pound stuff looks like rope.. and bends like it too.
i opened my mouth talking crap a few years ago, over a few beverages, ended up fishing with the dollar telescopic rod and the dollar rod, dollar line, and a dollar crank bait. i think the rod and reel are 2 bucks now..
either way i did end up catching a fish some how. my buddy using regular gear did catch more fish, but mine was bigger. if any one ever tells you size doesnt matter they are lieing..
my set up cost 4 bucks plus tax. when his was diffently probly close to $500 with a box full of lures, a good rod and good real...
