Hey guys, I'm leaning towards trying Rice Lake this weekend for Bass. (Give Quinte a rest.) Although I'm sure every lake around has been pounded with cranks and rubber for the last 2 weeks. Just looking for some general areas where I might have some luck. Just going for 6 or 7 hours, so I don't want to waste time looking if I don't have to. Bewdley, Gores Landing, River??

Thanks in advance!!

rice is being pounded hard this week, there is a fair sized tournament on it this week end..
the smallies in the big lake are on. dont have to go far from colins bay.. i did good besides the brother islands.. the wind was blowing north, so i could only smell that horrible stink on the way to my spot, caught a few nice smallies there.. ran else where and caught fish.. didnt have a amazing day, but did catch some quality fish... i dont know whats going on... i am really struggling canada side this year big time.....

I like rice lake towards the trent river. i am power fisherman, so in a day, i could crank the hole lake, i have caught many many 5 pounders on rice.. i do often pick up the flipping stick and jig when fishing rice. the free ramps are normaly stupid busy if there is any left, i have used some of the pay ramps for years. its like $20.

Good luck,
steve

Thanks Fireball for the info on the tourny. It'll probably be busy there. Quinte (Trenton) would be my only other option. Don't wanna drive too much for a short day of fishing. Any tournys this weekend on Quinte??

I fish rice a few times a week, last two times has been in the ottanabe at bensford bridge and long isl areas. Fishing has been ok but no real big hawgs. The walleye bite is still hot from goers to harwood for slot sized fish and I'm heading out at 7 to fish around white isl near rosenath for the first time since opener. Depending on how much you want to motor the Indian river from Keene to rice always produces nice fish if you work the river to the lake. It's super busy off bewdley most weekends and the launch at gores is great but parking sucks.

Thanks cccold. I always launch at Gores Landing, and yes parking is pretty tight unless you get there before they open. I usually don't go any further than the tracks, because I hit some rocks (or maybe the tracks) once before, and I'm a little gun shy now LOL Fireball was saying there's a tourny this weekend, so maybe I'll hit Scugog, or maybe Trenton. Thanks for the info though!!!

Tourny is out of bewdley, most guys will be pretty scattered, that's what I'm pre fishing for tonight. And the rocks in harwood are nasty lol my fishing partner has the last place in harwood at the tracks and he still smacks them time to time.

No I just fish the smaller events, too much money to enter bassmania, but Rice lake is one of the only lakes I fish often. I have fished some of the top walleye lakes in nw Ontario and would still rather take a trip to rice in late may ( however still nothing compares to quinte through the ice ). If it had specks I'd be in heaven lol.

Last night fished off of whites island and did ok, it was slow but marked some cool structure to pick apart sat. If your ever on rice and see an old red Cajun come say hi.

I went out from Bewdley on Sunday. Flipped and cranked most of the morning. Got 0 fish. Tons of boats out there and I didn't see a single bass caught. It was right after a storm and the water was a mess with torn up weed. I would head to the mouth of the Otonabee river. I didn't make it up there, but was told they have been getting some good ones that way. Pads and a nice channel to fish. Good luck.

I hear anywhere around any of the Islands produces smallies. Anyone ever have any luck?? I usually only fish Rice for Walleye, but wouldn't mind trying for bass. Large or smallmouth!!!

Thanks!!

For smallies if you launching from harwood try near the track beds from Tic island. Just use your trolling motor and hover around the island and the track beds. If you stay in that area and the islands straight north of gores landing you should get some largies and smallies

Did awful, only had one bass over 3 lb and nothing else even over a pound. My partner got nothing over a pound except for one of the nicest crappies I have ever seen. It was fun though and lots of good laughs after. We had issues with the boat at the ramp ( it was starving for gas, the line is shaded on the inside and just causing blockages ) so ended up still going out with a 14 ft tincan and rigged up a 60 l cooler with a aerator and it worked well. We couldn't get far very fast but it beat not fishing.

Was out today on Rice, and had pretty much the same results. Hit 2 small ones early in the morning, and 1 little Pickerel. 7 hours on the water. Could be worse, we did land 3 fish!!!
