Hi guys, looking for some wisdom.

I am switching my line over to braid from mono. I fish predominantly for walleye, but also do a fair bit of bass fishing.
I have read that a lot of you guys tie on some fluorocarbon as a lead, I am guessing because the braid is too visible.
So, what pound test of Fluorocarbon do you use, how much as a leader, and what kind of knot do you use to join the two?

Any particular brands of braid or fluoro that I should be looking for?
And....last but not least, do you guys use fluorocarbon for ice fishing?

Thanks again for helping me out!

Brad

i just run straight braid for bass doesnt seem to bother them however with walleye i use a uni knot to tie line to line onto 20lb fluro you could also use just a swivle where you would like to start your leader and just use your normal knots i like 832 braid and seaguar for fluro

i generally up the size of my fluro leader compare to the line, i use 10lb diameter fluro with 8lb diameter braid and i always use a UNI to UNI knot easy to tie and reliable. Go see Jamie at pro adavantage, Spider Thread braid and Gamma fluro, they are the cats pajamas, as far as ice fishing i stay away from it, fluro is to stiff for the cold, just me 2 cents.

Currently using Suffix 832 braid and seaguar fluro 15lb leader material. Uni knot or quality small swivel for the connection. Leader 2'-4' in length. My ice fishing rods are spooled with straight mono.

Suffix 832 braid 30/8 and 12pound floro lead spliced with "double uni-knot" for me. Never had a problem. I tie on maybe a 10 foot leader, so if you have to cut some line off to switch lures or presentation, say from drop shot to worm hook, or whatever, you don't have to keep splicing the line. Go on Youtube to learn how to tie knots if you don't already know.

Good Luck!!

Ive tryed many kinds of braid and I always end up going back to one of the originals which is spiderwire stealth in 10lbs test, absolutly can not beat this line. I useally connect an 18 inch lead of 15 or 20 lbs flourocarbon leader material with a good quality mustad ball bearing swival, the ball bearing swival is better if your going to troll alot with spinners such as earie dearies this prevents line twist, or double uni knot also works good.

Just a question to guys that use swivels at the splice. Doesn't it get hung up in the eyes on the rod???? May also damage the eyes causing line breakage maybe.

Just a thought.

ive used swivels to connect for a long time, never had a damaged guide or a hang up, now i run 20lb powerpro and 10lb floro,on my leadcore i run my 50ft leader spliced wrappedand sealed with a couple of drops of epoxy,i change it every fourth or fifth trip, takes about ten minutes to change,on the water i use crazy glue and spider thread to connect the leadcore to the floro!!!and i use the smallest sampo swivel !!!

what can i say. we are both bass guys, i have heard many times of those tournaments in belville, where you see the boats parked at the motels accross from the strip club.. and rumors coming from tournament officials that half the feild was gooned at check in that morning, and there was few they were scared to let blast off.. heck i went to a woman's bassmaster event, in hot springs, arkansa, in 2008, of course the local strip joint had male strippers every night that weekend..

I dont know why some one doesnt start one here, it would be pretty neat to see a womans bass tour around, i dont think there is any around now but the big names from bass masters woman tour generaly fish in the couples series now, and some of those guys are elite series members..
