Everybody wants to catch those walleyes, but once in a while, they have to take a backstage to other important things in life, like Grandchildren.
This past Sunday evening, my two grandsons (AJ & Will) along with their Dad went out for a short fish after spending the day at Sandbanks.
The wind was blowing so we fished the south shore by the Old Church in the lee of the shore.
Both the boys had rec'd larger fishing rods when they arr'd on Thursday and had caught a bunch of fish off the dock, but they wanted to use their new equipment like Dad and Grandad off the boat. Their rods were rigged with the Uzick Spinner and we started the troll.
AJ was on his own and Will had his Dad helping him get the line in and out.
We had trolled perhaps for 10 minutes and the weeds caused the boys to think they had a fish everytime the weed hit the lure. We assured them to keep striking with the line pulled. AJ yelled to me that he thought he had a fish and I looked and saw the rod doubled over - FISH ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
He reeled the fish to the boat and I slipped the net under it - AJ' first solo walleye.
What a start to the evening fish. As we trolled along, Will yelled that he had a fish too. His Dad helped a little to hold the rod up and Will reeled in the fish - Grandad netted the fish and he had landed his biggest walleye on his new rod.
We continued fishing and Will eventually landed another pair of walleyes. It was time to head back to the dock - what an evening...... Fished for an hour and landed four nice table fare walleyes.
Mommy and Grandy came down to the dock and pictures were snapped with the fishers and the fish.
A real Happy Fisher
Will had his biggest - what a thrill
The boys were looking forward to their Mom having a fish fry when they got back home.
There are times in your life when what has just happened makes the whole thing worthwhile - this was one of those times -Grandad and Daddy were proud as punch with the boys and their achievements.
Take a child fishing and perhaps you will be able to enjoy fishing even more.
