This is unusual as we normally fish the Hay Bay area, BUT, it was different on Labour Day. We had some reports of some fish in some unusual locations and decided to check them out.
Laker John and I launched at MCFarlenes CA after a brief talk with Kevin at Merland Park. The winds were too high to negoiate the areas we wanted to fish, SO, we comprimised and fished from the launch ramp back into Picton Bay.
How was the fishing??? Well this report is for all the skeptics out ther who say "Quinte sucks" or "there aren't any fish"
Started trolling at 1030 and the first fish on at 1033,150 feet from the launch - nice 16" on a taildancer (guess the colour)
Trolling the shore (read weed line), Laker John lost a nice one at the boat on a taildancer (guess the colour), by the time we hit the first corner, we had landed three fish. Gee there's too many fish in the slot
We trolled back toward the bigger water, but decided that the Uzick spinner would warrant a try. We hit five more fish on the way towards Merland Park. One of them another 22" about 200 yds from the gazebo.
Went to Merland Parks' dock and talked to KEvin and met a really nice couple from Nova Scotia- here to fish for walleye. OH gee his first walleye, caught near Shermans was 9.5lbs - too bad there's not fish in Quinte.
Was he a happy camper.
Left and hit more fish back towards the launch ramp. Decided to have a look at the ferry terminal (for the fall) and we hit another fish close to the Marina.
Took the boat out at 1600, the days total was: 4 fish kept(16,16,16&17) five released(one small eye and 19,19.5,22 &22), three lost (read professional release) at the net and oh yes one LM Bass(1.5lbs) released.
We caught fish on the Taildancer, the Uzick spinner and the CC Shad.
We had a super day and enjoyed every fish with a hardy handshake and big smile for the nay sayers.
Hope to get out next Mon & Tues.
