Well I talked my son into going to lake erie for some walleye action . They do things a little different out there then the bay so we are trying to learn . My son got his first walleye and it tipped the scale a 8 lbs . Then we got another 8 lber and a 9 lber to finish the trip . My personal best so far .
I wanted to post the details of the last fish to get some ideas . We used a worm harness set up while trolling large dipsy divers . When we stopped the boat to head in at 11;45 am we packed up the rods downriggers first and gear .This took about 10 minutes . All of a sudden the dipsy rod takes off . My first thought was a boat had picked up the line . Then when i realized it was a fish i figured it must have been a large sheep head . Turns out it was the 9 lb walleye .
Are these dipsys designed to float the lure up when not moving forward ? If I had more time I would have tested the amount of time I slow the boat to try and induce strikes . Any thoughts ?
I will try to post pics but I am finding it difficult to get them on .
