I'm entering a chili contest at back lake park this weekend. Prize is minimal but bragging rights to my freinds that are also entering; PRICELESS!!!

Figured this is the best group to help - so anyone have anything that's out of the ordinary that they add to their chili?

I'm going with the regular ingredients like beer of course both in and consumed, but wanted to know what it is that stands out for others that makes a great batch.

i.e. do you put in sausages, steak, hot dogs etc?

Cheers,

Paul

I add Black beans as well as Kidney beans 1- 14oz Black beans to every 3 19oz kidney depending on how big of a batch you are making. Good Luck......I only use fresh garlic will cooking my hamburger.

A little early for the fresh stuff, but I like to use venison burger instead of ground beef.

My buddy's a butcher so this is not to expensive for me but if you can swing it your chili will be talked about for sometime, I used beef tenderloin tails, lean ground beef, and ground pork. Use all the your regular ingredients don't overcook the beef tenderloin and your golden. We also threw in really hot home made pepperettes sliced nice and thin.

Thanks for all the tips everyone...keep them coming if you have more.

Although I hope any one of us wins, I'd love to have those bragging rights. :)

Cheers

I had some chilli last year that had a touch of dark chocolate in it apparently. It also had steak that was cut up in a very fine manner. Apparently they do that in Texas? Lots of good stuff out there.... good luck with your contest. It sounds like fun.

I've read that unsweetened cocoa and a cup of coffee added is supposed to be good.

I know that my buddy is going to use sausages, hot dogs etc and the other buddy, make a chicken chili.

The steak / beef tenderloin...is adding in this a preference for everyone?

Cheers

Here is an awesome recipe that is guarantied to win 8) , well, unless your buddies use the same recipe :x . This has chocolate, very nice balance to the spiciness.

If you can't make out the ingredients I can type them out or send you the original scan.

Good luck!
Mike

Edit: use beef instead of turkey! Turkey is for the birds :?

Mike...do I know you?

You seem to have me pegged....I'm a butter-tart fiend!!! :)

Although I've never googled it, I was told in highschool foreign foods class that they're considered the only true Canadian food...

Cheers
