We stay in Rocky Mount NC usually. There's just about everychain you can think of close to the highway and a few very nice ones just off. We usually stay at the Doubletree, a little more money and a couple of minutes off the highway but very nice, beware the RedRoof Inn.

i have never stayed there but have heard it is not the best.. u can find rooms from 25 to 100 bucks.. on the interstate.. stop at the welecome center just after u enter the state and pick up a hotel acomodation free book.. always coupons in there for discounts or if you are a senior use your seniors card.... we did the cheapest motels one time lol.. never again... we stay going down in comfort suites.. nice room usually with a couch and nice chair fridge etc.. usually about 65 or 70 bucks with discount.... near the border at valdosta there is a ton of places and a bit more expensive..if you can find a drury inn... they are great and not expensive..it will take a trip to find your way... meaning how far yu want to travel each day , and what you want for acommodations.....i looked at the map and see i81 meets i75 a knoxville.. that has you a long way down and only major city from there south is atlanta.. just remember.. atlanta needs to behind you by early afternoon lol.... no later than 2-2.30 on a fri..
this is a forum that gives info about fishing.. big mike runs the bait house on the north sunshine bridge pier... feel feel to mail or call and he and his pal scooter will give you all kinds of advice as to what is hitting where to go what to use.... the north pier is the old hwy and is 3/4 of a mile long.... the south pier about 6 miles father away is a mile and a half long.. park your car right on pier...
http://www.bigmikesforum.com/

look inthe reports section..... google the piers.. SUNSHINE BRIDGE FISHING PIERS... lots of pics and info.. also fort desoto as i mentioned before.. they are in a state park and very reasonable to fish from.. nite time if you are staying onthe inland waterway , you can free line
live shrimp around the docks for snook.. (MAKE SURE THEY ARE IN SEASON) it takes some scouting out for sucess.. stop at any tackle shop they all have knowlwdge.. betts is another one besides dogfish tackle i found to be good,,
http://www.customfishing.com/ this one also will not be far from you.. indian rocks tackle is another.. just north of you past wallsingham on gulf blvd.. they are mainly outfitters for the large fishing boats but are knowledgeable and carry reg tackle as well.... as you cnatell frommy long posts i love the area lol.... and if you like hockey.. go to a tampa game.. about 40 min from where u are.. tickets from 10 bucks and up...

Couple of years ago we got stuck for a couple of hours behind an accident and didn't check in until 11PM. Bed was lumpy but senior rate was only $49 so we stayed. On our way back we had a coupon that would give us the same room for $35 so we took a chance. Just got off to sleep when hell broke loose and we were in the middle of an episode of Cops. We pay $99 at the Doubletree but it's one of the best hotels we've used on our trips to Florida.

Whiting and sea trout are good eating. Spanish Mackeral are good, but greasy. Blue fish are good, but I guess it depends on what comes close to shore. I know there might be size restrictions on some of them so make sure you check before keeping any.
