it can still slip out of the reds trust me. you never need to move your clips or holes so glue them and be done with it and you wouldnt have lost that nut

The instructions say to move the front clip to the rear hole closer to the board for slow speeds. Do you guys do this or just use the stock location? I know. My first mistake is reading the instructions....

Good thread guys.

For salmon - like Shark says "the Big Daddy Z-boards" or the TX-44s. I don't own a set of TX-44s yet but have buddies that run them and really like them, but for salmon. It is hard to tell when you have a walleye on the Z-boards and I would imagine the same with the 44s. You won't pull them very well with light action rods, you will need a least medium or medium heavy. I have the OR-18s on 4 of the Z-boards but braid line will still slip through in foot waves. I just double wrap both ends in bigger waves. The wire on the Z-boards make them adjustable to pull just straight mono, cores or long copper sections. I own Off-shores but the Z-boards track a lot better when tuned properly.

When the waves get bigger than 3 foot the big boards go in the water.

Al

Good idea Steve. I was going to pickup some non permanent lok tite. Does everyone use the original clip location or the rear hole? Thanks Al. I think I may try the TX44 boards for salmon. I have lots of time to think about that though.

I read the same thing about moving the clip for slower or faster speed. I've never tried it, cause I have only been using boards for a couple of years, and only for walleye in the fall, so my speed doesn't change that drastic, but I'm sure there must be a reason, or they wouldn't tell you to do it. I'm going to move the clip to the hole closest to the board next time out, for the slower speed in the fall. I'm sure a nut like Steve mentioned, or even a lock washer would solve the problem of the nut coming off. Live and learn I guess!!

Good luck with your boards.

The way I read it they want you to move it when you are trolling 1 - 1 1/2 mph I figured everyone would have moved it lol. Isn't normal troll speed about 1.2 mph for Walleye? Sorry im still pretty new at trolling in general.

My slowest speed is about 1.4 for eyes but that is not the norm. I usually start at 1.7 & then move up and down.
Last fall Grizz and I had one of our better days at 2.12 to 2.25. If the waves get the boat rocking I drop the X4 prob down about 10 feet which is a more consistent speed indicator.

1.7 is my starting point as well, but ill often go slower. I rarely go over 2 for walleye. I find the colder the water the slower I go. My best day ever was at 0.9 mph in early December.

As for the boards Sheldon Hatch from ezelo fishing (eyetracker on this board) had a great post on his blog on how he modifies the boards. I copied him and love them modified that way. It's hard to search for the link on my phone but if I find it ill add the link.

I bought the OR18 clips and installed with non permanent blue locktite. The stock clips slipped on me with mono in moderate chop.

OR16 clips make for much better upgrades than the OR18's....

wish someone would have advised you prior to you purchasing the upgrade.

I guess everyone has different ideas but i was advised by a couple people to use the 18's I saw Bob Izumi using them when he fished with Sheldon Hatch so they must work right? :)

out of curiousity steve, why are the 16's better? they arent adjustable and i've had them slip just getting a weed hung on them when i use my snap weights with braid. I would think that they would slip for sure in a chop assuming one is using braid. Is it because he is using mono that you say they are better?

I agree with Steve. I could see them maybe slipping down the line, but at least with the pin and hole in the pads of the 16's it may help prevent the board from falling off. A double wrap should prevent slipping. Trannyman also stated earlier that the 18's still slip.
