Are there Browns to be had this time of year or is my best bet fishing for eyes? I've never caught browns so I don't have much of a clue.

if the conditions are right and you have the boat to handle it, go east and deep.

Up the reach for eyes you mean? That's what I'm thinking too.

We are going back to the Bonnet tomorrow. One more shot in the big lake before I put the boat on the trailer for Quinte this fall.

Weather looks good for tomorrows run and temps at the Bonnet look super.

I have always done well when the surface temps are between 54 & 58 degrees on the surface and it looks like we will have that tomorrow.

Any tips you can share? Keep in mind I've never caught a brown in my life...

Out this evening. got back in from the Bonnet at 10 pm. Got a brown a Barbie Reef Runner while trolling for eyes. Brown was about 5 lbs. 2 eyes about 10 lbs on a perch husky jerk.

Sorry No Pics. Fishing alone and boat control was a bitch while landing fish.
Will have Big Gene with me tomorrow. We'll have pics provided he gets his camera fixed. :D :D :D

Later
Al

Well I ended up with about a 8lb Walleye and a 4-5 lb Rainbow. Oh well it was a good first time using planer boards overall. I do need to upgrade the front clip though as they came off a couple times. Rough ride back in my little boat this afternoon too.

rtkman, I take it that was you in the blue & white boat. Nice vessel.

I watched you net the eye, nice fish. Sorry, I didn't intend to get that close to you but we were committed to that troll, before I realized you put the boat in neautral. Gene and I were running cores off the in-line and we couldn't drop our speed back or would have been hooked to the rocks. :D :D

Big Gene will post a report on todays activities.

Bud, you should get yourself a VHF radio. Long drift to shore if something happens.

Good Luck
Al

Ya that was me. I bought that boat never intending to hit the big lake with it. I plan on getting a bigger / deeper boat in the future. It was my fault we got that close im sure but with 1 person in the boat its hard to net a fish and steer at the same time while trying to be safe. In my boat the dammed thing will turn just by me walking to one side. I didn't get to weigh it I couldn't find my scale and I didn't want to risk the fish dying just so I could weigh it. I was going to live well it but then said screw it put her back. I got all my action on that side of the island. Im going to have a radio in the boat by spring. I have a cell phone but they don't work too good wet so a vhf is going to be a must. I would have liked to keep fishing but those rollers were getting to be a bit much to be that far from the launch by myself. It was a rough and sometimes wet ride back. I Think I got a pic of you guys fighting a fish. I'll see if its any good and post it.

Good to hear a few walleye been caught on the big lake.

I had a crappy day bass fishing, I may have to head down and try from some eyes on the big lake real soon.
