guys
how big do you eat the fish out of quinte?
we got a 10 pounder last night had to keep it,wondering eat it yes/no?
around cement plant ,this would be from lake ontario no? or do some big eyes stay in bay all the time too
I no smaller ones will taste better and its not like we would eat a 10 pounder 3 times a week but curious

anything in moderation wont kill you, i typically aim for 3lbs and under in the summer and will stretch to 6-7lbs in the late fall/winter. Theres nothing wrong with eating a ten pounder but the meat is much tougher than a smaller fish. are you saying the cement plant in picton? its a little early for migratory eyes to be in the bay so its likely a resident...

Mix up some beer batter and enjoy. would diffently eat it. or give it to some one who will.
walleye carry low levels of toxins compared to fish that live deeper in the water. (salmon, browns, lakers, mud cats, etc)
we do try and release the big ones, but if one should be in questionable condition, the sportsman thing to do is harvest that fish for the table..
have had to do it a few times by self, and honestly, i dont know a different between the big ones and the small ones..
diffently migrator, they werent there 3- 4 weeks ago, i often fish the cement plant and area.

I cooked up a big girl that I tore the gills ice fishing. I didn't want to waste it and usually i only keep small guys for the pan so I chunked up the fillets and wrapped the chunks in bacon, added a ton off butter and garlic and baked it. It was one of the best I have ever had.

Nothing wrong with eating a 10 lb'r!!! Have had to do it for the same reason, tore the gills. Prefer to keep them a little less in size but when ya gotta do it ya gotta do it. I usually trim off the brown meat though, taste too fishy for me. Cook'er up and enjoy! You won't regret it!!!

Milk takes the fishy taste out if you marinade it overnight, cut the brown colored meat out too and that makes it just as good as a small one, don't forget to take out the cheeks. I do the bacon trick too with flour and spices as well as a dash of cayenne pepper for some heat, don't forget the lemon juice.

Cut the lateral line out of the finished fillet, chunk up and beer batter , then deep fry. Makes a big difference getting that brown line out on the bigger ones. Enjoy!

If you plan on keeping a fish, bring a small pair of scissors and snip the gills. the fish will bleed itself out in the livewell

Does anyone know how old a 10 lb walleye would be? My guess is 10-12 yrs.
