Will be going for a week-end and wanted to know if boards are necessary and what about live bait for my spinner rigs ?

Abot that time of the year large baits become the normal choice. large rapallas and other baits work well on planer boards. Live bait will work as will jigs tipped with bait but most use large plugs....larry
