i have never ever had one slip out, as long as they are put behind the pin in the clip...

never.

i use braid.

or18's freeze shut if you use them in freezing temps...and when they freeze, you are not opening them up....

this i can speak from experience.

or16's don't freeze.

put the line behind the pin, and they wont come out...however, when our hands are cold, sometimes we dont get them behind the pin in the centre....just make sure you do, and your rockin'.

i use my boards from december through to the end of february....

not many guys do.

as for slipping, yes, both the or16's and or18's will "slip" if your braid starts icing up...

however, you can wrap the or16's, but cannot on the or18's.

Steve, I started wraping on the OR-18's in the big lake this year and will do it on Quinte this fall is need be.

I have never had an 18 slip period. I use mono, another advantage of mono. FYI you can flip the 18 latch both ways

Pinch pads also wear out , and anyone who has ever used a pinch pad long enough has had a felt pad come unglues

Steve hit it on the head... If you use them in freezing temps the OR 16 are the way to go. Also if you use the Or 16 you also only have to purchase one set of clips for your boards and snap weights.
I personally run the OR 18 snappers as I can adjust them for fine lines like 10 pound braid and thicker lines like lead-core.

Lots of options on rigging also, I like to use both clips on the arm as it allows me to clear boards quickly because the board just lays over on is clip side making it easy to reel in and change baits etc. I like to change up often or move baits around in my spread. Also when you get a decent fish on it will once again lay over on the side, so less plane to the side and resistance when fighting the fish.

When I fished with Bob I used what ever he had in the boat at the time and we ran them how ever he had them rigged...they all work and the rest comes down to personal preference.

nice sheldon! i didn't think about the or18's for leadcore!!!!!

that is a HUGE advantage if your putting the leadcore in the board clip....i don't know why i never thought about that...

not so much walleye fishing, but when i'm brown trout fishing i like to drop half colour or so back, then clip on the board....but have found my OR16 pads pinch the core....

i never considered putting the or18's on a light setting and attaching the leadcore accordingly.

Thanks for the link and info Sheldon. That's a great tip for those of us that are new to boards. Having the board lay over would be very helpful. I've learned alot from this thread for sure.

Depends what species, for eyes i start at 1.7 and go from there, sometimes they like it higher or lower depending on the water temp and how aggressive they are
