I would fish at night in the trent. when i was younger, (and didn't have a boat), i caught lots of fish at night at the boat launch on the west bank in the mouth off the concrete pier, and in the marina on the East side + the outlet to the river from that marina. I fished right to ice up, the colder it gets the bigger the walleye get. I think they come in there at night to feed, even right into the marina in shallow water.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but when you say "at night" do you mean late night (8pm - midnight) or Early morning (midnight - 6am)? Only reason why I ask (and I do understand that other lakes are different) is because I've tried shore fishing at night on Balsam off a pier and didn't catch anything but bullheads and we fished from about 1:30am until late morning. This was a few weeks ago on Labor Day Monday.
