Got out a bit late yesterday morning and trolled Mallory for a couple of passes and headed to the ferry to see what's going on.

Motored over the area where last year everyone had success. Motored down until the Keith Shoal and didn't mark any large numbers of fish. The odd one from time to time. Too early.

Noticed something odd on the North Shore while motoring along hte south shore. There were a number of trees that appeared to have their leaves inverted (like prior to a rain storm), the trees appeared to be silver maples as they were a grey looking colour.

When I headed to the north shore past the old Provincial Campground the answer to my question became instantly obvious. CORMORANTS!!!!!

They are roosting in these trees and deficating on them and they're DYING - and by the way the Cormorants are back THey've filled the bay with ther flocks feeding and sunning themselves. Enough bird talk.

The wind picked up after noon and I trolled from the cement plant to Thompson Pt looking for fish. There are some and generally they're right on the bottom with the odd fish in the 24 - 28' range.

Hit a nice fish in Thompsons Cove, it felt nice and pulled hard but then the long distance release and fish gone. Hit a pike over by Carp Cove, at least I saw the fish on the surface before the professional release was executed ( didn't have to handle mr pike)

Back a shore at 1530. A long ride but saw areas that I wanted to look at.

Sounds like you worked pretty hard.

Thanks for your email Superdad, I just picked it up. I often forget about that feature on message boards.

What color of tail if most commonly used for the set-up ?

I imagine we'll get down there between 7-8pm, I'll help get everyone settled in the cabin then throw the boat in and probably fish till around 1-2am.

I've got a VHF so I'll be monitoring channel 16, my handle is PRO-CAST N' ATOR.

I've got no idea where to begin, think I"ll wait and see what dad and friend recommends. I'm thinking just around the corner by the ferry.

Would there be any point in bringing my downriggers ??

Cheers,
Gman

Might be too early for the area near the ferry, didn't see anything over there on MOnday.

There are fish in Picton Bay along the weeds and maybe at night in the deeper water.

Just an impression about deeper water at night.
