Fished Glenora Ferry last night from the shore, a few others showed and we had 5 fishing there. A boat pulls up and starts casting into the shore getting closer and closer, I was casting in the same area and put one about 15 feet from his bow. I said in a loud voice the next ones going right in his F@#$ing boat, guess he got the hint cause the reeled in and backed out. Is there no etiquette for boaters encroaching on shore fisherman, he had the Picton bay to fish and he chose to slide in on us, he was not trailered at the ferry either. As a shore fisherman we have only so many spots we can cast from. Sorry for the vent but just thought I’d put it out there, lost a few nice clacking minnows, broken line then a nest in the bait caster….and no fish.
Tim

I can understand your anger, and I think etiquette should be used more often. I have a boat, but I also shore fish in the fall. I'd be just as pissed as you if someone did that to me, but I've also seen it the other way around. I'd be trying to launch my boat, or taking it out, at a "public boat launch" and would have 5 or 10 shorefisherman not willing to pull their lines in to let a boat go in or out. I mean it is a "boat launch" Not saying that was your situation, but etiquette does go both ways. Anyways, don't let some idiot ruin it for you. Keep on fishing!!!

Good Luck

I can understand if he was recovering at the launch but he wasn't, there were no trailers there. As for a boater recovering at a launch, they have all the right to come in and prep to put on a trailer and anyone fishing off a dock should give them the right of way,I for one do. We were fishing off the rock not the dock as it was so any boater would have lots of room in this case.
Thanks for the reply.

I have seen this even with guys in boats. We were bass fishing in a quiet spot back north. a boat came from a good mile away and set up right of our bow. There was a young boy in the front of the boat and I wanted to tell him not be like his dad. 1 boat on the water and he sets up off our bow. come on
there are more fisherman with etiquete than with out I hope.

I think the op did exactly what i would have done. I dont like people pulling that on me either. I've had shore fisherman not moving for me at the ramp too. I just go through the lines. They aren't going to bother my boat coasting in so screw em if they aren't smart enough to move. I ask once nicely then barrel on through. I watched one guy at myers pier cast into someone big boat. Id be ready to box if that was my boat he casted into. Most are really good I find though.

Walleye 9, I share the frustration. Kid's are one thing but sadly enough it is usually the adults on the dock that keep casting. The out of town Scuba divers at Collin's Bay are the worst. A month ago I was trolling in Hay Bay and had some guy come out of the blue and start trolling right towards me. I was relieved when he apologized for drifting over because I was about to lose it.

it happens to us bass guys alot, they see are nice shiny boats, and pull right in. i love it when, they get so close, you have to turn around, back out, pass them, to continue to fish the area you were moving in on.

I have a feeling that was me and a buddy. It's a spot I often work quickly after dark and the lighting makes it a decent area to try. We stayed to your North and did some casts and screwed off .... I didn't hear you say anything so that is not why we left . It would have taken one heck of a cast to reach us also , it's not like we were right in front of you ruining your night. It's a decent spot , and public property...and of course , the water is everyones. We could have trolled picton bay , but I cast points at night.
My advice to you would be to stop being a whiner , get a boat and troll picton bay yourself.
You're probably not from around here , because if you were you'd know that often people fish 10 feet apart in prime spots and get along just fine. Guess your mommy didn't teach you how to share when you were a kid. Anyway, no hard feelings and sorry if you felt violated.

Well Triggereleven, not sure if it was you or you’re just trying to get me going, I did put one close to the boat and you weren't that far off. I am from around here and I do have a boat but like to fish the shore in the evening. And as for whining, I was just stating how ignorant some people can be, and well, but if you like to try again some night go ahead, I'll be there and we can further the conversation offline.

LOL.... everyone is Brock Lesner ....behind a computer screen.

So, if I drive there and join you and the other shore fishermen there is no problem , but if someone is in a boat and they want to cast the point , its inconsiderate?? C'mon man ....

Ever go to Telegraph narrows around openning day? Guys troll literally 2 feet from your boat , it is packed !

TEll you what , if there is a next time , I'll stay further away , ok? (Or is no one allowed to fish that point if they aren't on shore).

I was just making a point that there were 5 guys fishing in a tight area, if you came and fished from shore it would be six,no problem. You say it's a good point to fish, I agree, but is there not other good points out in Grizz's bay that can only be reach by boat? Just saying......maybe let the guys on shore fish the one area they can access.

YOU BET YER LAST DOLLAR THERE IS ALOT OF GOOD POINTS ON my bay!! *grin* . i mean loads and loads of them expessally at night time............ as i said before neither is right or wrong i guess it all depends on if yer in the boat or standing on the dock,,,,, and i might add this really is nothing new, i GUESS SOMETIMES PEOPLE JUST DONT THINK OR PLACE THERE SELFS IN THE OTHER PERSONS SHOES FOR A SECOND.......when you think about it you have 6 guys casting from shore, they soon fall into a pattern to work the waters in turn with some kind of orginization to it,,,,,, then comes a boat and cast from outside in and the pattern is broken.
Now if yer in a boat along with six other boats jigging an area and someone comes up and starts casting into the floatilla do the boaters not get a tad pissy also?? . sure they do........ the one thing is and seems constant is one is restricted to shore where the other can have the liberty of moving down the shore line to fish a new place...... should he have to ? probably not! , can he well he can alot easier than a guy who has to pack up get in his car and drive to a different dock to try his luck.......... who is right |? who is wrong ? ..... they all are if they dont ask my permission to fish my bay in writing in triplicate, signed in blood wraped up in a six pack of beer *GRIN* ....... but i will forgive if its forgotten! grizz
