Quinte Fishing

Hey guys, I've got 3 days booked at Merland Park mid November, and I was wondering if there are any tackle shops in Picton where I can get minnows. I'll be going through Trenton and Belleville early in the morning before any of the bait shops there are open.

nothing out this way that I know of buddy better time your trip accordingly or pick something up the day before .

Thanks Grizz. I can get them the day before at home, but don't want them all to die on me overnight. I'll just buy 6 dozen, and hopefully 3 dozen will stay alive. LOL!!!

im not real sure buddy but im kinda thinking they sell minnies right there at Merlins. you can always call to ask bud. besides if yer jigging the eyes dont know if the minnow is alive or dead if ya keep it moving lol

Didn't see anything on their website about bait, but I guess I could call. I'll be trolling the deep water for walleyes during the day, but was thinking about using the minnows off shore at night on a dead line. It's nice if they can stay swimming on the hook for a few minutes anyway.

night time around here most do well casting husky jerks after dark. you will be in a great area as well just go out from where you are staying drift around the mouth of the harbor and cast away you will probably do well....... go into the harbor around the lights and cast very slow retrieve on husky jerks often will produce very nice fish after dark ive cought many double digit eyes in the harbor before

Thanks for the shore fishing tactics Grizz, but after 8 or 9 hours on the water, I'll be watching my bobber from the cottage window, with a beer in my hand, (in the dark) instead of standing out there casting cranks. When I see the bobber move, there will be a fish on!!!! It'll either be a cat, or a pickerel. LOL. If the "still fishing" doesn't work, I will keep 1 line set up for casting.

get a cooler with a little ice for the trip put your minnows in the fridge in your cottage bet you wont loose more then a couple minnows in warm water they will barely make it through a night.....i keep minnows for months this way if your going for 3 days just change the water with lake water each night.....if your bringing lots bring 2 smaller buckets they need to fit in the fridge

this should save you a few bucks in the winter time too

Thanks Mudcat. Keeping them cold is key!! Once I get to the park, I'll put them in a minnow pail, and chuck'em in the lake, tied to the dock.

if you put them in a minnow bucket and tie it to the docks for the overnight you wont loose any
