We started around 2:30, put in at the ferry and headed east as it sounded like guys were doing well in that area. We tried DDT11, Manns 20, Reef Runners on leadcore, Mono and Braid, Flat lines and Planner boards and didn't catch a thing. We marked lots of fish and bait fish from 20 to 60 feet deep but just couldn't get them to bite. Trolled at 1.6-2.2mph. Just couldn't seem to figure them out, I don't know what we were doing wrong. Any help is very appreciated, I would like to try again on Sunday, I think we were in a good location, we saw about 10 other boats trolling but I guess that doesn't always mean your in the right spot.

If anyone is looking for a boat to fish in and can possible teach me a thing or two I have a 17' boat and most of the equipment required.

Thanks for any help

Ruckus

I'm no pro by any means, but maybe try slowing it down a bit. From what I've read on here, sounds like 1.5- 1.7 seems to be the starting point, but can go as low as 0.9mph

Good Luck

Just keep at it, different depths, speeds (we were trolling 2.5 last weekend, couldn't go any slower), against the waves and with the waves.......... Consider moving to try different spots, even if you are marking fish, until you can find active feeding fish, then work that area for more.

Hoping to make it back to Quinte next Saturday I'm dying to get out again,

JimW

I was watching Bob Izumi with Sheldon Hatch and Sheldon said something about doing small turns to stall the boards so that they lay almost flat. The click the link to watch the video.

Ruckus, that time of day I would have started to move into more shallow water working an edge of a shoal for feeding eyes. Your speed range wasn't too bad. last weekend we did them at 1.7 to 1.8. Thursday morning we had them going at 2.2 mph. Go figure.

But in saying that I have always cut back my trolling speed late afternoon going into the evening.

Good luck
Al

Cool video, THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO DO!!!!!!!

Do you guys think there is a difference in using inline boards or big boards and a mast, I was using my fathers big boards that he uses for salmon and steelhead. I see they were using Reef Runners, it doesn't seem like we need to be using minnows or worms.

Your not alone, I went out yesterday with my two buddies that had never fished this side or planar boarded and we only caught 2 walleye and a 13.5lb sheephead... I tried everything and anything I possibly could  Outta the 10+ boats I never once saw a net come up.. Bummer day but it was beautiful none the less.

Thanks for all the help Guys, you've got a good site forum going here. I went out again on Sunday and yes SKUNKED again but I'm not giving up and I think I'm starting to figure things out.

Thanks again for the help.

Hey Ruckus, maybe an option might be to hire one of the great guides we have on the BOQ? One day with one of these guy's is money well spent.
