Most of the fish-fishing takes place in Michigan waters due to water clarity in the spring. Other than the Trenton channel and a few other spots most of the USA shoreline has a steel breakwall with limited spawning opportunities. When good water clarity is on the Ont side the boats all move.

Dont be afraid to use heavier jigs 5/8-3/4 if you are fishing deeper or are new to the area. It is best to make sure you are making bottom contact than be guessing.

Best times are when you can make it. Day in and day out things change and so will the water clairty. Early April you have a better chance of catching a bigger fish, mid to late April you have a chance for a numbers day.

i differ to Bob ,he,s the guy for the Detroit river, myself i get down there 3-6 times a year, and i usually fish the american side, my best fishing is there, that is my experience, but for sure Bob is the man,you should hire him for a day-huge learning curve, took me a few trips to become familiar with a few spots.

The walleye season does NOT close. Open yr round, but really first week of April till the ice comes in Dec.
You can buy and print a Michigan license online $8 for the DAY or $36 for the yr. US residents pay upwards of $80 for an Ont license. Our guide rates are less than other parts of Ont too.
Make sure you do have ID when in the boat on the US side, I have never had an issue in 20 plus yrs of fishing.
