Quinte Fishing

hey guys, i hear a lot of guys talking about nick names for caerrtain parts which are probably familiar to everyone on this board. Unofrtunately i have never fished this body of water but i am fortunate to be fishing it next week from the 25- 28. If anyone can help me out on a few places which are close to Merlands PArk i would greatly appreciate it. We will be in a rental boat so i don't think that we'll be able to go a great distance, but any information would help..... what direction, certain signs that will tell me if i am in the right vicinity......drop offs, depths, land marks, resorts.....ect. really looking forward to the trip... hope to get a couple nice eyes that week, i have never caught one over 3 pounds.....hehehe... kinda embarrassing.

I also wanted to know about drift socks and your opinion on them. i have one and we have used them fishing before with excellent results. Do you think they would be of any use to me?????

Sound like you a drifter/caster.

A lot of the bigger eye's taking in the Fall are caught doing open water trolling patterns. As we get closer to ice up, the eyes start to move in from Lake Ontario into the Bay. Using in later November and into December they can be found in Picton Bay (water right in front where Merlands is).

East of the Glenora Ferry is pretty much go all year. I suspect there are Walleye that live there year round.

Shermans and Thomspon point are popluar spots but I am not a jigger so I can't comment on there.

Do a search on the board and we will come up with more spots.

Well fishingguy28, the bags have their place in my opinion but a lot will depend on the conditions you encounter. Our speeds on the weekend were pretty consistant at 2 to 3 mph.

It may be too much of a run to get up into Adolphus reach for you in a 14 footer. You sure don't want to be out there if things stir up. Most of my fall fishing is right in front of Merlands. But as Mike has already stated, that's usually November into December.

It's been so cool this summer, you'll likely do OK longlining in that area.

You won;t have to go far.

We hit four eyes last Nov about 1/4 mile from Merlands in 20 minutes - total weight was 45lbs

From 1530 to 1600 on a blustery and windy day.

They'll be there - no need to endager yourselves in a small boat on the bigger water, especially if it blows
