Ok guys, what'll I need to spend on a reasonable radio/antenna setup :?: I'm curious as I have absolutely no idea. Do they have to be professionally installed or would I be able to fumble my way through it :?:

I'm somewhat of a handy individual.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I beleive you can purchase a radio and antenna for around $200. Look for a water proof unit unless you can store it in a protected location. Installation is easy. The antenna should be a collapsable style[ratchett lock at base]. If you don't plan on going too far offshore a portable unit is a good choice. The fixed antenna/radio will get you better distance. Someone of your ability should have no problems at all!

Our crew that goes to Quinte now uses those little MRS radios. They are not that expensive, fit in your pocket. Get the one that uses AA, AA batteries are cheaper. Just a thought.

Thanks Fish Farmer, did you mean FRS radios? I already use those but they're only good for short distances. Believe me, you find out just how short when you hit the water :!:
