OCT 25-28 report....

hey guys..... to make a 3 day trip really short we got skunked. i couldn't believe it, this is the first fishing trip ever i have been totally skunked on. we stayed at merlands park for the 3 days and the weather was pretty good. For the three days that we were there everyone found the fishing a little tough there, but there were still some nice ones caught. Kevin brought in a few 10 pounders the first night we were there fishing right in picton bay. Our neighbor in the cabin beside us also landed a beautiful one last night that was pushing 14 pounds..... it was an awsome fish. I have never fished for walleye specifically before this trip and have never used the techniques such as trolling in 100 feet of water before. Although nothin was caught i am determined to go back up there and catch my first quinte walleye. Well fishingguy28, sounds like a tough trip. But apparently they happen. Keep the faith, you'll get into them at some point :!:

Sorry about your trip,but you did get to see some."I KNOW IT's LIKE NOT HOOKING ONE".But, fishingguy28 don't give up,I've gone in the same 18' boat and my buddy gets them.The Taylor clad live for this time of year,we start going out more and more.I feel sometimes THEY JUST DON'T LIKE ME. :twisted:

Hey Fishingguy. Hang in there! My first year at Quinte (3 years ago) the fishing was fairly slow and my boat was skunked. 2 years ago, we picked up a couple of smaller ones and then a snow/ice storm hit and we left early. Last year we finally did well (in mid November), picked up 6 walleye over 10 pounds and several others just under 10 pounds, and will be back in three weeks to try our luck again. Like you, I had never fished for walleye the way they do at Quinte in late fall, and there is lots to learn! The regulars on this Board provide a wealth of knowledge and information! I think the biggest mistake I made the first two years was booking a time far ahead and not going when the fish were there (of course, they can hit like crazy one day and not the next too!!). hey thanks guys for all the support.... the thing about hitting one day and no the next is absolutely right....... it can get frusterating at times. But i'll be back there one day.... hopefully i will have a boat by next year and fish a little more comfortably.

Thursday Oct 28th report:

We were completely and utterly

SKUNKED!

Helluva way to start out the season, eh? But we should have known better - there was a frickin' EAST WIND. What were we thinking, anyway? Sheesh.

That's the last bloody time I drive all that way just to waste my time fishing an east wind.

We launched on the Adolphustown side of the Glenora Ferry, and fished the waters from the ferry going perhaps two miles east at most. We did not fish west, nor go anywhere near Thompson's and Sherman's, the cement plant nor Picton. There were perhaps four other boats out, and although I didn't see anybody catch a fish, maybe someone was luckier than us.

We tried everything you can do trolling - downrigging, flatlining, snap weights, every colour and lure and presentation imaginable. Fast, slow, up down, shallow, deep. Nothing.

"When the wind's from the east, the fish bite the least."

I would love to hear that somebody caught fish on Thursday Oct. 28th, and how they did it!

Arg.

But as the Governator would say,

"I'll be bahck...."

[The coloured leaves along the 401 and in parts of Quinte were astoundingly beautiful, however, and just being out on the water on a crisp and sunny fall day made it worth the effort. Uh, I guess....]

hahaha, man i know how u feel trust me. i'll be back to though. and fish were caught, maybe the fishing gods were just too busy with some other people this week. Anyway's good luck to you in the future and i hope everyone does a little better

Know the "SKUNKED" feelin guys. Happened to us yesterday with an east wind.....Did not venture past the ferry because of the white caps coming down the reach. Marked anumber of fish just west of the ferry near the red bouy and island but no takers. Water temp still pretty high at 54 degrees. Bac k out some day next week.

.I had east winds for over a week. We did 55 eyes up to 12lbs over a 2 week span.I"ll take that east wind anytime. :wink:

I have to admit it's true. I and mornings generally do not co-exist very well. In fact, my definition of "morning" usually begins when the clock starts showiong double digits, and continues until Changeover Time.

Anyone who can catch fish during an east wind deserves Dr. Piton's Heartfelt Congratulations:

Where is Allen Point relative to the ferry? I'm assuming it's east? How far? Is it on the south or north side of the Reach? Where do you launch? Is it shown on this map here:
