Hi,

Do I need a flotation suit? I will only be fishing a couple of times a week and I am not planning on taking any chances with thickness or going to dangerous spots.

Thanks Guys Tom

i really stay on good ice and have never been thru....yet...... since i do fish alone every now and then, i bought myself a 2 piece along with a set of spikes to put around my neck, figured it's really cheap for one compared to the other consequence.

Hey,

Thats a good point Grizz. This season will actually be my first time ice fishing, so will be with a buddy that knows the area all the time. Saw you guys are doing that battle of the bays tournament and It looks like its going to be a lot of fun. I might join in, just have to get an ice rod first lol.

You can get a really good Mustang suit for $300 at Sail right now. Or a Helly Hanson Delta II for $250 at Lebarons. They keep you warm and if you fish on the open water in the fall, you will get your moneys worth.

Thanks Guys!

Bodaciousmind I checked that site but it wouldn't let me ship to Canada.

So I went on ebay and found this www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-NWT-STEARNS-Surviv ... 032wt_1141 the guy says he will ship it for $38 so in total i'm looking at $163.

Tell me what you guys think...

Tom

Never heard of Stearns, but it looks good. Seems to have all the bells and whistles you need. Let us know how you like it when it comes in.

A local here that had fished the bay all his life drowned a few years back when there were guys heading out in the same area on atvs and trucks.I myself rode my atv right buy were he went in without knowing it.There is no such thing as 100% safe when your on the ice in the Bay of Quinte.I certanly came to that realization that weekend and bought a floater suit that Monday. Can't remember what I paid for it but also did not care its worth every penny!!!!!

I have a Helly Hansen Delta 2 and can recommend them. Nice & warm plus the safety factor. Transport Canada approved PFD.

This suit is not Transport Canada approved. May not matter to some but if you wish to wear it on a boat it makes a difference. If your on the larger size like me finding a PFD that will fit over the suit will be hard to do & added expense.
If your PFD is not sized to fit you as dressed than you do not have a legal PFD for you.
