Okay guys, I fish Moira all the time either in the summer for Musky or the winter ice fishing for whatever is biting. I want to know what you guys are using ice fishing, I've caught a few Pike and Perch but never a Walleye. I use minnows with Northland tackle lures.(forage minnow) and jig heads with live minnows and have yet to catch a walleye. I saw 2 guys land one today within 20 mins of setting up....where is the spot to be out there?

Thanks Chris I'll give that a try too. I was out there this morning for about 5 hours and only caught 2 small Perch, I did see a guy catch a Pike just a few feet away from me though. I'm going to keep going out there until I land one or the ice melts which ever comes first.

We sw you over there, wearing the orange? How did you make out, get anything? We're suppose to get 5-10cm of snow tonight followed by another 5-10 on Friday and the temps a bit colder migh help with ice.
Today when we set ice anchors, even pre drilling the ice was shattering after 2"s down..luckily there was no wind today

You must have been the 2 in front of us that set up then took the hut back down then? The wind was strong enough that I had to put the tie downs on, hut kept buckling in. I'm going back out tomorrow afternoon and see what's happening

I was there this aft, got a small perch and a small walleye, threw it back, might have been eatable but being used to Quinte size fish I figured I'd let her live and wait for a real fish....lol Lots of ice and flasher was lit up close to dark, tried the whole tackel box and just the one....1.5 hour drive was worth it anyway....

Wow, I just checked out that ontario guide to eating sport fish for the first time...quite surprised that the fish in the bay are safer to eat then any of the back lakes I checked for similar size fish. I am guessing that this has to do with age of the fish...ie a moira lake walleye might take 10 years to reach 18", and a bay of quinte walleye may take a much shorter time period to reach this size, and therefore less time to build up contaminants??

Actually guys it's because of the waste treatment lake about a km North of Moira that probably get's "flushed" inot Moira somehow. I would never eat anything out of this lake, every now and then you can get a whiff of it if the wind is blowing right. If you drive just north of the boat launch here you can see it on the left just past Toughs repair shop, huge gully of crap...so don't eat em out of Moira, just a warning!
