Some of you may remember this picture from my trip to SW Ontario. I was able to get the numbers/letters from the collar and report this bird as a live sighting.

Banded July 26, 2002
Adult Female(Hatched in 2001 or earlier)
Akimiski Island, James Bay, Nunavut

Thats Awsome Thanks For Sharing The Info on neckband ... I was Very curious as to if someone actually reported it .. Preety cool ... Are these places ,, Akimiski Island, James Bay, Nunavut where the goose has also been sighted

You can report bands as live sightings although it is very difficult with metal leg bands. The only reason I could report this one was the position of the band when the photo was taken and the high resolution on the original photo.

Akimiski Island is in James Bay and you would think that it would be part of Ontario when looking at the map, but in fact the territorial borders for Nunavut include many of the islands of James Bay.

When you report a band you get a certificate online (at one time they mailed these out in paper) that simply states where the bird was banded, the year it was banded, sex and age (hatchling or adult) at the time of banding as well as the information you provided about your encounter with the bird. Unfortunately you have no way to know if this bird has been sighted anywhere else as most band reports come from killed birds.
