If anyone has a medium to large tent that could be used for the Battle Of the Bay and would like to donate it for a day it would be greatly appreciated, there must be some hunters who have access to one. Please contact me, Grizz, TrophyHunter or Landshark if you have one available.

What's the minimum size needed?

I think something around 10x10 would be a minimum, we would need it to be at least that size to accommodate setting up food and keeping food sheltered to stay warm.

Not sure when this battle of yours is, but if you get into a bind, I'll see if the other guys mind if I pull out our moose camp.
There's 4 sections of army tent, each section is 16 feet wide, 12 feet high and 8 feet long. We have set it up 16, 24 and 32' feet long over the years. It has room for a woostove if you need it as well. I'd need a bit of time and a helping hand though. It's up in a garage attic and weighs as much as the small bulls the other guys shoot. Hehehe...
Let me know.
Dave

Dave, greatly appreciated man! The battle is on Feb. 18th, I'm sure we can round up some volunteers if your fellow hunters will give us the go ahead. Just keep us advised on how you make out.

Thank You.

OK Dave, no pressure, have couple others also trying to source one for us. Again, the offer is appreciated.

The guys are ok with it, as long as:

1. It doesn't get burned to the ground.
2. It doesn't get torn to shreds in 90 mph winds.
3. It gets put away dry. Does anyone have a big garage\shed it could be hung up to dry prior to rolling it up for storage again?
4. It gets equivalently replaced in the event of 1 or 2. (We got the sections and walls at the Army surplus in Kingston)

I would think the same would apply to anyone else with a tent as well.

We only have pegs for dirt. Not sure how you plan to anchor it to the ice. I guess you could drill holes and freeze the pegs in, then chip them out? We use 3x3 angle iron with heavy long straps on each end and rebar pegs down the sides.

Also think about how many sections you'll need and if you want walls on both ends or just one. The center is 12' feet high and it is 5' high at the walls. One section is 12'wide x8'long, two sections is 12'x16' long, three sections is 24' long and if you really need to, four sections is 32' long. We set it up that long once and played football in there. Usually we set up 2-3 sections. Two sections is about 2'x3'x3' rolled up and likely weighs 50 lbs or better. More than that, it's awkward to carry and a bike rack would be required if you are taking it any distance.

I would consider setting it up the afternoon\night before as well, weather permitting. It usually takes a few hours in total. Also let me know if you want the woodstove or not.

It has windows you can roll up, but you'll probably want lanterns as it's blacker than the inside of a cow in there if you close them. We use propane ones with no problem and hang them from the roof. Usually right in front of the door so when my buddy ducks in to come through, he cracks his head on it  I guess you guys have a table.

I assume of course there will be ice...

Dave

Dave that's Great!!!!!!

Will speak with the rest of the crew, or they can add their opinion right here. I think we would need at least 2 sections 12x16 sides and ends included. I will volunteer to help deliver and setup and take down, I have no idea where or how we can dry it out. Anyone help us out on this part? I have a bike to transport out, a pickup to get it there, a table and a propane lantern to light'er up. The conditions of use are more than fair and nothing less would be expected.

Don't think the woodstove will be needed, but I've been wrong before.

Again can't thank you enough for your kindness and generousity.

i just sent this post somewhere not sure where it went but i will try again.I have access too 2 8x8 or 10x10 not sure they are easy to set up 1 minute then put on sides.they are 1 piece retrackable look like a circus tent, would have to drill holes to anchor, I also have heater that is diesle a little smell not bad.165,000 btu they work great, but would need a generator small one,I will also have atv and bush buggy as long as i dont have to drive people back and forth juring fishing time.I have tracks on it so wont matter about snow or slush just need ice, it will be here by then. mark

With the set up time factor for Mark's tents would be an advantage. Also probably easier to anchor then than the bigger army tents. Only disadvantage is they are smaller.

i myself think that 2 smaller tents would be better than one larger tent....... my reason for saying this is its not like we need the tent to hang out in just a wind break for a lil BBQ cooking the real factor is weather and none of us know what thats going to be and thats very unfortunate lol but truth is a big tent would be great but impossible to set up in a big wind (LIKE TODAY) lol could you imagin .............. and i think a smaller tent would not be any better in 50 k winds either lol but simple and easy would be the way to go.......... i think guys wants to fish not spend 2 hours setting up a tent so if could get a tent that sets up in 5 minutes im all for that route, two tents would be all the better ..... what do you all think guys ????

this is maybe not the best option but if were stuck my buddy has 2 clam command post 6 x 12 i think you can even attached them together 6 x 24!! one good thing is they take 2 mins to setup and takedown, they can be heated easily!!
