I also fish Wellers regularly in the summer, you said 100 M off shore. From which shore did you walk out from?

My buddy was in Concecon on Friday checking on our camp and told me he seen 1 hut out there, I guess that was you?

That's a good size Wally for Wellers. Most fish are 1-3 #'s

I am on the bottom end of Hiscock Shores.
Pretty quick drop off close to shore

Not good! Never made it out onto the ice. Found the public access and waited for daylight to surface, wasn't ready to venture out in the dark not knowing. Glad we waited! We saw 1 massive area of open water with several other areas of open water.Lots of grey patches and numerous heaves, pressure cracks. Drove around towards Smokes Pt. to find more open water and about 100ft of ice that was probably 1" thick straight out from the launch.
Decided to drive into Trenton and fish Potters. Good ice. lousy fishn. Better luck nextime.

Thats too bad!! My buddies I fish with in softwater season told me that the ice on wellers is fussy like that. They usually wait until February until they venture out as it can be 6 inches in one spot and 2 in another or 6 inches today and 2 tomorrow.

I'm gonna wait till I get the call from the locals. I live about 1.5 hours away so I want to be sure.

I too will wait a few weeks before trying again. I know what the potential of Wellers Bay is, so I must try again. lol

Stay away from the bottom of smokes point, (current between the 2 bays)
also in concecon(river and islands)

Thanks for the heads up! Figured current would be an issue after seeing how quick the river out of consecon was flowing.

Wellers is toast!! Check out this other thread and pics from weather network.

I have seen some real nasty winds on Wellers. Brought down several Willows this year and lifted boats right off their lifts.
