Now that you guys have ice, I'm coming down for my first hardwater trip of 2012 on Wednesday. Will be leaving home at 3 AM to be at the shore for 6 AM. I'll have to get minnows on the way. Save some for me.

The "buddy" who was supposed to come, now can't :?:, so I'm going to rattle around the Bay on my own. If anybody wants a fishing partner for the day, gimme a holler.

Otherwise, how's the ice at the cable?

Maple

Dateline: Ottawa, Thursday morning.

Yesterday 3:00 AM found me on the 401 headed for Belleville. My buddy bailed on me so it was a lonely drive. I got minnows and ice-info at Protackle, then headed to Wagers. Got there at 6:30 and headed out. Other than a thin crack near shore, the ice was solid, so I spudded my way off the shoal and found 10" of solid ice over 17' of water. I settled in and succeded in caching a half-dozen good sized perch. Didn't mark a single big fish. Even the perch were hard to entice. There were bikes running shacks out in the middle of the bay.

A got a call from Fishn'golfpro who set me up with WalleyeWonder and we met at the ferry, where, by the way, the water is wiiide open. Drove up to Hay Bay and found some guys out catching big perch. We figured it was just a matter of time before the walleye moved in. We ventured out farther, 7" of good ice over 18-20' of water, and set up for walleye.

It looked like a good place, and it was, for perch. Fished 'till dark, grabbed a bite to eat, and arrived home at 10:30, safe and warm. Had a great time with Walleye Wonder and the perch. I'll be back.

Be safe out there I'm not sure what this rain we just had might have done to the ice

Maple I will PM you later today regarding safe ice etc. If I can make it out for the am or pm I'd love to join you for a fish. At this point I might be tied up.

Fishing the reach is not the best of ideas right now.
