Hello everyone! I am relatively new to the site and will be headed up to Picton this weekend for some late fall fishing. I was planning on doing some night fishing in Picton Bay and harbour and just wanted to hear any success stories or get any tips on successful approaches, locations, lures etc.

Last year in October, I nailed a 28" walleye in the harbour on a clown-coloured floating Rapala minnow. Wanted to hear if more of the same can be expected from this trip.

I am also trolling with an electric motor and wasn't sure if I needed to use a planer board for either daytime or night time fishing.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hey Big Swede, welcome aboard!

Well if your trolling the harbour you'll be fine longlining I would guess. That's all I used to do for years at Picton and always did fairly well. The boards can be helpful but, I'm thinking you might find it crowded if you stay too close in the Bay area.

Your electric motor should provide just the right speed as well. As far as baits, the Clown Rapala should be fine as well but, Rebel fast tracks have proven successful in the area as well. If you venture out to a little deeper water, some deep diving lures might be the order of the day. Mann's +20's or more and tail dancers, Wallie Minnows as well.

Good luck and let us know how you do. Remember if you're night fishing to have lights on too! Nothing more irritaing for other boaters than to come across boats with no running lights :!: 8O Be safe :!:

Let us know how you do :!:

I have a few suggestions for lures. Any of the following in clown, firetiger or black and chrome. Husky jerks in 10 or 12, Smithwick rouges, Rebel Fast Tracs in hoit orange or chartruse and Tail dancers are all great nighttime baits. I have talked to a few guys who have been doing the Picton harbour nightime bite and it is slow. I have had good luck in past years, when Picton is slow, working thompsons point to Shermans point. electric motor is all you need while trolling and the boards are not neccessary. Good Luck and lets hear back how you made out.

Hey Dan, I am wondering if you can tell me where to find Taildancers in Belleville. I saw them a while back at Quinte Outdoor Sports on 62, but their selection wasn't that great. I haven't been able to find them since. I am heading down there on Saturday.
