I assume the red can is the red buoy. I have been to quinte about a dozen times and that's always where I have gone. I have done good some days and nothing others. I am coming up in a coulpe weeks and wanted to maybe try another spot. Thinking of staying in belleville. I definitely want to fish comfortable safe ice as I am bring my old man with me. I know us fisherman have tight lips just thought I could get some direction from you seasoned quinte guys. Thanks for any help you can spare.

yeah I get it. def. not asking where your spot is just looking for a general location. I will head to where I know but was hoping to maybe spend a day in a new spot. Just not familiar with other areas and as I said taking my old man so looking to fish someone safe. not slamming any community. come up to erie for walleye and I would be first to share knowledge of my waters

Actually, the guys on this board are VERY helpful. There are many posts within the last week or so about ice conditions. Just have to look!!! Big Bay/Big Island seems to be the most consistent ice. Alot can change in a couple of weeks, so check in a few days before you come down for the most recent updates.

Good Luck

you could try to read back thru 20 pages then ask a question or two . if you did that first you would see we are suffering crappy ice syndrome, this means men cant get to 50% of the places. so they cant report on thouse places....... second people dont like to give up there favorite places because they actually want to find a parking place when they get there . thirdly people dont want to give any vuage reports because they fear for your safty since to have as much as said yo dont know the areas, this means you sure dont know the bad areas inside what might be considered a good area , basically you want to fish go fishing...... yer at your own risk, this weekend alone i know many and i mean MANY good fishermen who could not buy a bite...... maybe just maybe they dont want to send you anyplace they dont think you will do well when half of them dont know where the good fishing is for them selfs . as for me i havent fished the belleville area this year so i sure would not tell you where to go because i myself havent been to these areas........ sure hope that helps clear things up a bit, not tryin to piss in yer cornflakes just telling it as it is or at least how i see it to be! . Grizz

Csklaus44, Give it a few days, a lot of guys have been out fishing and probably haven't been on this board much this weekend. Like Walleye 9 said, a lot of guys are very helpful on this board. Besides the bite went for a *** this weekend. Everybody is sulking.

1st question which red buoy are you talking about ? I would have to look at an old chart but I believe if memory serves me correctly there are at least 29 red cans on Quinte.

At the present time the safest ice is Big Bay off Big Island and probably the flats at Trenton. As for the hot spots - most of those areas are not safe or open water at the present time because of the unseasonably warm winter that we have had and the wind and currents created by the river flow from all the rain. Over the last 35 years, the hotspots are Baker's Island east of Trenton off Weese's side road, Onderdonks across from Trenton, the mouth of the Trent River. Akins just east of the narrows at the little island. Another great spots is Anderson Shoal out from the conservation park at Potter's Creek.
Bellevile area - Rush Bar (south side of Bay east of Belleville), - the narrows between Massassauga Park and Pt. Anne. Of coarse Telegraph narrows that is complete wide open now. North west side of Forester's Island at Desoronto not safe now, open water. The powerline at Green Pt., Huff's and Thompson's Point. All these areas are narrow parts of the Bay that will funnel the transient fish through that area in deeper water as they migrate up the Bay to their spawning grounds. When the Bay narrows in these areas ,the current is accelerated and the increased water speed creates unsafe areas. During the late winter when the walleye reach the spawning areas or river mouths early they just wander around that basin until they are ready to run the river to spawn or to spawn on one of the Bay's gravel bars. Csklaus44, read Deathfromaboves thread, they were fishing Adolphus Reach in a boat on the 27th and nailing big eyes. The walleye are still moving into the Bay from lake Ontario.

For all these reasons a good spots is very hard to predict from day to day. Check back before you head to Quinte, send me a PM and I will try to give you a prediction for a good spot to try, but only if we get some cold temps and some safe ice. I would not send you to a spot if I hadn't been there and considered it safe. Remember the walleye that are in a spot today will sure as hell not be there the next day. They are continually moving. I think all the old Quinte veterans would agree with me on the walleye movement.

Later
Al
