Well, I bit the bullet.

After a year and a half of searching to replace my Lund, I have given up, and yesterday I dropped my baby off at Ron Banks Marine for a full overhaul.

My baby is being redone!!!!

I'm so freaking excited. I didn't want to get rid of my boat. After the realization that boats today do not offer the "fishability" of boats in the past, I decided to simply rebuild rather than replace.

There is no cost savings in this method, however, I know exactly what I'm getting into....and I'm happy!

After a long chat and a tour of Ron's facility, as well as the past work he has completed, I left my baby there to be picked up by the end of February.

We have agreed to the following:

*Re-Rivet all rivets on the bottom of the boat, as well as add new structural rivets in the front.
*Repair any stringers required
*Replace floatation foam
*Replace all wood with new 3/4" marine ply
*Replace all carpet with new marine grade carpet (same original colour)
*Add custom rigger mounts for each side
*Replace all electrical and hoses
*Replace the bilge and livewell pumps
*Custom paint the interior and exterior of the hull (same matching colours of the original)
*Add digital guages for my motor (my old yamaha had analog guages but my new yammy requires digital guages - which I never added)

When he threw me the starting price, I was comfortable. I added $2K or so for additional "fun" that will present itself as we go along.

His first step is stripping the entire boat down to rivets. I'll then come by to check out the condition of the hull and rivets prior to him stripping the rivets and re-doing. He's even doing all the aluminimum reconditioning (scratches, dents, etc).

My baby is going under the knife.

Photo's will be taken throughout the entire rebuild, in which I will share accordingly.

I really apprecaited his understanding of 12 months a year boating....rather than talking like "it shouldn't be done, and if you do, expect damage" which is how most marina's talk (ie, bay city) Ron realizes that it can be done, with the appropriate boat.

I'm a happy camper!

Just another surety that I will be back for December Quinte 2012!

tough to answer.

i got quotes that ranged from as cheap as $2K to well, the quote I accepted....much more than $2K.

it depends on the quality you are looking for.....

best thing to do is bring your boat to a couple places and ask for quotes....its really tough even over the phone, as the person doesn't know what they are getting into....

i know the 2012 1700 pro guide (hully only) is worth over $12k.

the layout on my 1998 pro guide is vastly superior to the 2012 pro guide. that was my main reason for doing it.....

its not cheap.

Steve,

I commend you for saving the life of your LUND. I am sure the boat would have found another owner, but now you get to keep your long time friend.

I have a red (1997) 1775 Pro-V Deluxe similar to your boat. I also love the design of the older model. Of course, I have upgraded many accessories over its 15 years.

I love my LUND too.

Steve

You'll be happy with your bpat after she's done. If you got a new or newer one, you'd have to get it all rigged up and that takes time and extra funds.

You know what you have and a re-fit will make her shiny and bright.

I saw a bunch of new things at the Boat Show on Tuesday, Liked the Harbercraft and the Crestliner - LOTS of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Cheers - Stay Tuned - winds to high for fishing tomorrow

From your subject line Steve, I was sure you were going to brag about your wife.

I'm sure she's too good to let go of as well!!!

Congratulations on both.

Good call. I have the 97 model. Known as the " Outfitter". Converted mine from a tiller to a side console, all new interior and fresh paint with custom decals. Also upgraded the outboard to a 2008 Yammy F50. Well worth every penny( which were a lot).

that's my motor as well letsgofishn.

you realize that motor can be made a 60hp?

have a look at the yammy site, and compare the 50hp and 60hp. They are indentical. The exact same motor. Not a single difference.

Just they put a governer on the 60hp to bring it down to a 50hp.

My marine did the removal and voila, 60hp yammy for the price of a 50hp!

Does yours have the massive livewell in the casting deck? I think 36 gallons if I recall correctly!

Already done! Gained an extra 500rpm by removing a plastic washer. Wicked! Yes. Large livewell in my massive casting deck. I believe it's 19gallon.

I also had a 1700 LUND Pro V with a 90 Mariner. Can't remember what year it was. Sold it about 8 years ago and have regretted that day MANY times sinse  . The kids were very young and I sold it as it wasn't getting used enough. I now have a 14 foot sylvan sport troller with a 25 Mariner tiller. I love this boat as well but I would kill for my LUND back now.

My next door neighbour at the time had a Legend V17 with a 90 Merc and it was a dog compared to mine. Nothing compared! I let him drive mine once and that was it he fell in love. After that he always wanted to take my boat whenever we went out. He sold his shortly after that.

LUND is #1 as far as I am concerned
