Hi all.
There's one, I understand what you are saying, but I can't help but wonder what you are worried about. I came to this forum about a month ago and got so excited that I had to to come to Quinte. No less than with my wife for our anniversary. I consider myself to be a competant fisherman and have fished from Inuvik to Campbell River to now Quinte, as well as many States. That being said I allways try to gain as much information as I can from locals about everything from navigation problems to bait. I think that I gained alot of explicit information from this site, and yet we did not get one bite in 2 days. I personally find the information gleaned just gives me confidence and usually I end up doing something different than what was prescribed, but I was confident because I had a starting point. To further my point I have sat in a boat anchored up and fishing exactly what my partner was using only to watch him or her out fish me by leaps and bounds. I have also found that quite often doing something just a little bit different than the prescibed method works better.
I did notice though that once at Quinte the fisherman were more tight lipped than the fish.
I probably can't change your mind and that is okay, some advice is better than none. I hope that my failure at Quinte gives you some peace of mind, as I believe you can put the fisherman on the water but you can't put the fish on his line, well I guess you can as one tv show proved, but you know what I mean, I hope.
On that note I would just like to thank those of you that share, as that made a skunk weekend a marvelous weekend. We enjoyed being there and the anticipation never wained even as the boat came out of the water, because we knew we would be back.
Just an opinion, Cheers Clark

It's one thing to post some info about results and some tidbits about lures etc. It's the EGO BULL---- of going on Walleye First and Walleye Central and every other board in North America and blabbing your head off to the world about Quinte. If you have ever fished the West Basin Of Lake Erie you would know what I mean. It's gotten so bad there fist fights break out at the ramps, mostly over issues involving TOO MANY RATS IN THE CAGE. Has anyone noticed the tripling of fishing pressure since last year. I will always find fish out ther because I know a hundred places to look for them. Thats experience VS freeloading from the net. I did it on Friday. All the freeloaders were out in Adolphus were catching squat and I was was off all by myself getting 13 for 20. I will be guiding out of a cottage on Q next year so launch ramp follies won't bother me any either. Keep telling the world boys until you gotta park 500 yards from the ramp after you launch. Then you will know what Theresone and I are talking about. Its more than just a few fish at stake here.

"Only" 13 fer 20? Sheesh, Targa. What kind of fisherman are you anyway? Sharpen those hooks, eh? My night fishing percentage is much better than yours. I'm a hundred percent*! So there! [See below]

When I was fishing with my dad on Monday and Tuesday I introduced myself to a bunch of people and asked, "hey, do you guys read the Quinte fishing webboard?" Nobody I talked to did.

Buddy above is right - don't go to Walleye Central fer cryin' out loud! Geeeeeezzzz......

* One fer one - I'm so lame.....

Targa. Good fishing out there on friday. I'm drooling over here in colchester after catching those monsters last week at Quinte. You are right about the boat pressure; after fishing with you last year all by ourselves out on the water last week was like playing bumper boats during the detroit river spring run. Can't wait to get back next weekend I got big fish fever. Good luck on sunday

So It`s all right for you to take the "freeloaders" out and make them pay for the info, and the location of fish, but don`t tell anyone else where the fish are? I guess you had better call all the fishing magizines and tell them not to write about BOQ anymore ,as there are too many "freeloaders" here now.
I have personaly paid for a charter 5-6 times .Most of the time with Fishfinder Charters.Been ice fishing and stayed at his home. Also rented camps from Perfect Vue.So I guess that you can`t consider me a "freeloader".But what are we going to do with all these people who want to come to the bay and catch fish?Don`t they realize that the place is getting crowded? And that the people that fish there now don`t want anymore people there?(only if you pay for a charter)I guess you better put up a sign BAY OF QUINTE CLOSED NO INFO AVAILABLE

Bear, you missed my point. When I say freeloaders I mean the guys who aren't willing to work at their "craft" as fishermen. They want easy answers. Go online and get the straight goods fast so I don't have to work. I don't expect for one minute that everyone is going to hire me as a guide. Do I seem that short sighted to anyone. I noticed you were the only critic of my post and you were a tad left of centre on my meaning. The silence from the rest of the crowd speaks volumes about the truth of what I said. Heres the point. Human nature says anything you don't work hard for has less value. I worked hard to learn Quinte and my VALUE of it is proportionate to the work. If we all go online and give the rest of the world DRIVE THROUGH FISHING, are they going to value Quinte enough to care for it as it should be cared for. Not likely!!! These are NATURAL LAWS and cannot be argued. You don't have to plant weeds in a garden, they just come up. So why fertilize the weeds by inviting them. I have been around the block of the fishing world a little bit more than the average person and have seen first hand what I am talking about. The fishing pressure has tripled and my catch rate is a third this year from last. COINCIDENCE???

Targa, although I understand your concern about the fishing pressure on the lake, I think you are overlooking many of us "get out a few times a year" guys. I think it is clear that you want to protect the Quinte fishery - I have no question about that. So do I. I am a very strong advocate for catch and release. I always appreciate reading your posts too - especially when you give a clue or two!

I only get an opportunity to go fishing 2-3 times per year - usually for a weekend each time. I would never have the time to 'get to know' Quinte the way you do and many of the locals do (I live in Kitchener). Yet each year I book accomodations for a few nights, go out for dinner in Picton, buy an assortment of lures, etc. at local sports shops, etc., and give it a go. I love the atmosphere around Picton, being able to fish so close to shore, the scenery, etc.

I appreciate the Board because it gives me an idea of where to start and what might be working. I also appreciate the chatter back and forth and even throw my two cents worth in once in awhile - it's probably only worth one cent though! Quinte is a huge body of water that would more often than not be intimidating for most less experienced fisherman like me. I do not keep the fish that I catch, but sure enjoy catching them.

I think it's great that you have many spots to go to stay away from guys like me who might annoy you. Other than my vehicle taking up a parking spot, I don't think I'm inconveniencing anyone too much?? I hope to be heading up this week for my annual trip - although the wind is looking like a factor right now for my 17ft Lund. Don't run me down though  I would even be more than happy to by you a cold one! I am staying at Tip of the Bay with my dad.

So if I have to drive 250 mi to come to BOQ 5-6 times a year,I am not supposed to ask anyone "how might I make my fishing more productive?Am I supposed to kepp on trying ,trial and error, until I catch agood fish?
Maybe "the silence " of no one replying ,is that mabe they think that I am correct in my take of your position . I understand what your trying to say,but I thought that one of the things that this forum was for,is to help people(to catch more fish)I am not saying that you have to spoon feed them, but so what if you tell them what and where you caught fish. You know that one day to the next can be nite and day as far as fishing goes.
Since you don`t think that info on fishing should be posted.maybe they will have to change thenamefrom "beg and Brag board ,to just The Begging Board.
As so far as the fish pop going down, maybe the MNR has some suggestions. But as stated before (not by me) the gill nets and spears take more fish than all the fisherman.
I guess the thing that got me to reply to your first post ,was the use of the word "freeloader".I don`t consider anyone who uses any and all info available to them,to catch, bigger and better fish,a freeloader.I found this forum after I had been to BOQ a couple of times.I read most of the post to try to improve my fishing success.AWWWW ,I guess I am just a freeloader.

Again you miss my major point. I'll say it nice and loud and blunt. THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO GO ON EVERY BOARD IN THE WORLD AND SHOOT YOUR MOUTH OFF ABOUT QUINTE. SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! By the way Bear how do you suppose I figure out how to compete with 140 of north Americas best walleye guys when I go to unfamiliar waters like Detroit River,Saginaw Bay,Winnabego,Erie,Sault,Bay de Noc. Well I'll tell you. You get a lake Map and study it. You call the local tackle shops and get some general answers about type of presentation and equipment. You drop $300 bucks in that guys store when you get there. You pay for a guide and do some dock talk with the locals. You combine these things with your knowledge of walleye behaviour and you go fishing.$5000 dollars later and your a much humbler and wiser walleye fisherman. Fact is I don't want specifics when I go to a new lake. It clouds the experience. Why do you suppose locals nevers do well in PWT events. Trail PROS almost always bomb on there home water in these events. There's a lesson connected to what I'm taking about here.

So if you don`t have $5000 to learn (buy) the knowledge on how to fish in BOQ, STAY HOME YOU FREELOADER

You always extract what you want to don't you. I'm surprized you can type cause you sure as hell can't read. Why not instead of disagreeing with the one thing you find distasteful in my post don't you say something about the correctness of my major point. It's obvious your jealous that I have acheived something of myself due to the Freudian nature of your responses. Well you know what they say don't you THEY ONLY TACKLE THE GUY WITH THE BALL. Hey Bear when it gets to the point that you have driven all the way from Kitchener and you have to walk 700 yards back from where you parked your truck after you launch , remember that I am just an opinionated moron will ya......How foolish of me I just realized why your so upset. You must be one of the guys TELLING THE WORLD. PARABLE ( A man was asked once what he thought of ignorance and apathy... he said. " I don't know and I don't care." You wouldn't stand a chance in a face to face arguement on this issue with me so I will be done with you now.

Not something that I particularly care to discuss, but targa is right. People need to understand the power of the internet. I'm an erie guy who fishes in alot of places. But bear has some points, w/o this board, my first trip to BOQ a few weeks ago would not have been as successful. Yes I spent weeks going over every single thread the day this board started, yes I bought the Hot Spot maps, but I don't have the time nor the money to drop at bait shops to have a successful 3 day fishing tirp.

I cringe everytime I see a bragging post on WC at an area that has little preasure and awesome fishing. I can understand if somebody asked pointed questions, but bragging makes it harder for everybody else. The bad news I feel is that BOQ has just entered the same arena as Erie/Saginaw Bay/LBDN/ etc. You guys have an awesome fishery and hope this board along with other widlife associations can protect her.

Targa 2, I don't know you or have never met you. Apparently you fish the PWT and have a wealth of knowledge on BOQ.I fished BOQ for the first time 2 weeks ago.Drove up from Mich. The info I received from this board was helpful to a point, lure selection, speed, colors, areas to try Etc. Stayed at Merlands but launched at the Tip of the Bay launch ramp. I'm not bad mouthing the ramp, but the parking lot was one of the smallest I've seen.I'm sure on weekends it can be a problem parking even if it was just locals doing the fishing and not all the freeloaders that you pertain to.We did fairly well the 3 days we fished and added to the Picton economy as well.Usually when I fish a new area for the first time I either charter a boat or hire a guide. I figured being an Erie guy I would do OK at BOQ and as I said, we did'nt set the water on fire but we did OK. Most of the info I got for BOQ came from In-Fisherman magazine. Their latest issue in places to go state, Bay of Quinte was the hottest spot in North America for catching trophy walleyes from 8 to 12 pounds, as many as 10 a day. Thats what perked my interest, not this board. I did'nt even know about this board till later.I think blaming a few people who post on other boards like Walleye Central, and I've only seen one there about BOQ is ridiculous. Blame the large publications who speak highly of BOQ and tell them to knock it off. You say there are triple the fisherman up there this year but I bet that hasn't hurt your guiding business. I'm sure if you were honest you would say that the articles in magazines and the info on this board has really helped you a lot more than others. As someone who may hire a guide next year to learn a little more about BOQ, because of your attitude you will not be on my list, PWT pro or not. Just my .02 worth.

Glad you had an awesome trip Tom O! As you probably know, pay the money and you too can be a PWT pro.

Education is key in my opinion, especially for the BOQ. Conservation is #1.
