Here is one of the fish I caught on saturday, there has been some discussion as to what it is. This fish came clear out of the water twice. It was one of the better fighting fish I have caught.Image

From what i can see that is a Brown Trout. It is hard to see the mouth and eye detail in the photo but the big old thick tail and no fork says to me Brown......

not an atlantic.. they have forked tail and different markings,, as for a brown maybe.. looks to me like a female steelhead from the coloring and shape but would need to see it to be sure

I'd say a Brown. Mouth when closed will be close to the verticle line, but the thick back has convinced me. This should be a test question. Maybe Chronz will answer in. He loves talking Atlantic.

Looks like a real beauty of a Brownie, Lake Hound
by the tail, markings and mouth.
A lot of the browns are silvery these days. :)
We had a good day eh ?

I'm pretty sure it is a brown as well, the silvery colour of this fish is deceiving but all the other browny traits are there. Can't wait to get another! Weekend weather looks rough might have to slip away for a quick fish tomorrow AM before work. 8O

i still stand by what i posted earlier.. steehead.. to be more precise maybe a skamaia strain steelhead, that are stocked on the south side of the lake.. the skamaia run into the rivers over the summer months and spawn in the fall and early winter instead of spring, and are noted for their ability to jump, when hooked.. have caught many fishing michigan waters in yrs passed... just seems to me the spots although faint on the pic are too small and not dark enough for a brown.. just my opinion, but it is making for an interesting thread... lol

I thought it looked like a bow too. From what I remember the skamainia were distinctly xtra long and real acrobats.

the reason i said maybe a skammy was it looks to be carrying a load of spawn in it's belly, and most if not all of the bows have already spawned, and are dropping back.. skammies go much later .. and yes they are lean but have seen some pot bellies like this before... here on the canuck side of the lake the original strain of west coast steelhead introduced into lake ont int he 1800's were from the wilmot farm hatchery into to the wilmot creek were a long slender type fish. and were mostly all we caught up to the 60's and then other strains were being introduced to the rivers.. but skammy or not i think it is a bow steelhead or whatever u want to call it lol..
