Received an E-mail today regarding the new plan for water levels in Lake Ontario/St.Lawrence. It's being hosted by the IJC (international joint commission, I think). The meeting is being held Wednesday May 23rd, 7:00pm at the Banquet Center (the old Alhambra hall) at 1 Alhambra Square in Belleville. There are details at http://www.ijc.org/LOSLR. This site also lists other meeting dates for other Municipalities and U.S. cities on these waters. Dave

It is actually suggested that the lake levels are too high.

They have been trying to drop the level for 2 years, and it constantly stays what they call above average.

I think this spring will change things a bit for this summer.

Although it was very unclear with lots of PC-speak it seems as though they want more seasonal and annual variability in water levels so that all the wetlands flood and then dewater/dry out (change state) more often. Seems as though this keeps the preferred type of plants healthier, otherwise the more permanent unwanted underwater or exposed land weeds take over from the wanted plants.
Is that Less or more foggier??

Thats my understanding as well. More natural cycles of high/low water flushing but at the same time maintaining enough water in the harbours for shipping.

How are the water levels so far this spring? We had barely any snow and very little rain so far this spring. Last year the water started quite high in Wellers Bay but by Labour Day we could barely get out boats out of the water it was so low.

I plan on attending Dan. I'll see if they have a power point presentation available. If not, I'll post any important notes. Dave
