The MNR contacted me and asked me to post the following information regarding proposed changes for zone 20 to the Muskie minimum size limit and proposed changes to the opening/closing dates of bass.

Specifically the Muskie proposal is to change the size to 54" zone wide

For the Bass, the proposal is to open the season a week earlier and to extend the season by a couple of weeks.

Thanks for posting, Dan. Looking at the dates on the Bass graph, it seems they are wanting to do the changes for the up coming season. :D

Dave,
I think you are right. The change does look like it would be for this year but to be sure i will call them and confirm. I think this is a few years overdue. I have seen bass spawning every year behind the old Morch Marine and they are long gone before June even rolls around. The smallmouth are different but given that Quebec and New York state has had the earlier season now for a number of years and it hasnt had any noticable effect on the fishery.

These changes, if there is broad support, and subsequent support from the zone council, are for next year. These consultation pieces usually come out at this time of year to get enough time to condense feedback and bring back to zone council and then bring to the ministers desk. Everything needs to be wrapped up in a bow by September for the following years regs.

So in a nutshell these would be for 2013 regs

These changes wont happen until the 2013 season. The MNR is still collecting public imput through to May 5th (1st week of may approx.) then the imput will be compiled and if there seems to be support for the change it will be brought to the Minister of the MNR for them to make a final decision and signoff on it
