Does anyone know of a landmark that I could use to indicate where I can fish, upstream of the dam in Hastings....book says 500 M....1640 ft......Would the boat ramp on south side, upstream of the bait shop be far enough ?...or the old railway bridge further up....is their a sign which says your far enough upstream?...have some time to kill in Hastings tomorrow waiting for some workers to arrive...figured I'd spend half a day fishing there.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a GPS, use that.

No GPS,....Google Maps has a scale , so I got a rough idea how far 1640 ft up would be.....you can be a km down ,but there are no roads that hug that section of the river that would allow me access...hoping to see a fishing santuary sign as some other places have..thanks for your help it is appreciated.

You have to be beyond the swing bridge when fishing above the lock at Hastings. That's what everyone uses as a guideline. If I remember you should be able to drive near to the bridge then fish on the shoreline.

You should be able to see the bridge in this map and you can park at the end of the road. Just remember you need to be on the upstream side of the bridge.

Look at the shore and count the hydro poles, thats what I use to do, however i don't waste my time fishing that end of rice unless it's for smallmouths in august.
