Hello,

I am new to this board and was curious about channel cat fishing in the area. Does the Trent River have them near the mouth and is it worth me driving the distance? Does anyone know where they are in a good abundance in the area, etc...

Any help would be appreciated!

You can catch channel cat pretty much anywhere you can access the Trent. We've caught them up to about 25 lbs before. If you do a search, you should find a thread on this from last year.

I used to catch them at the #1 dam in trenton, not in great numbers, but some. I heard the dam is not accessible anymore though, but might want to check.

There are lots of BIG channel cats in some of the generating station discharges in the Trent. Not sure of the number of dam, but the generating station outflow near warkworth at the end of percy reach has lots of cats, and big ones after dark. They come in there to feed. My buddy and i used to get them quite a few years ago. Some had heads on them bigger than the net ! This is the dam that has the long outflow to the generating station, anywhere along that is great, or used to be at least. Use a big slab of liver

hope this helps!

hi there i fish for them all the time from shore when im not in the boat ,although mostly at night i have been catching them during the day on corn.i usually catch them on minnows or dead rock bass.i make sure the air is out of the bait so it lays on bottom and keep drag turned very freely.any were on the trent. im sure is good as i catch them there.i myself find the bigger the bait the bigger the catch from my experience.

Thanks a lot for the responses guys!

I am from Peterborough and we don't have Channel cat up this far, but I am going to head to the Trent River sometime this season for sure!

Thanks again!
