A neighbor of my dad has a lowrance Lcx18c and a navionics NE/US901XLS east great lakes map.

The unit will not read the map card until you go a hard reset (zoom in/out pressed while powering up). Then it will read the card. You are able to select the region that you want. Once the unit is powered down and powered on again it will not recognize the card at all until you do a hard reset again. Is this card compatible with the unit or is there likely another problem?

Thanks

A lot of the older Lowrance units had an issue with some MMC/SD cards where they would not read them on the initial power up. The work around for this is to open the card slot after the unit powers up and slide the card out slightly so it no longer makes contact and then slide it back in. The unit should beep right away letting you know the card is recognized and then you'll have to select your map. This should work for you to avoid the hard reset each time and having to set everything back up again.
