Congrats to everyone out salmon fishing lately. I've enjoyed all your posts.

Now I'm itching to get out but I can't get out in the mornings. I tried later in the afternoons a couple of times last year and wasn't able to get anything to bite. I am wondering if anyone has ever had any luck in the evenings for salmon and if there is something I should be doing different at that time.

Hi Adventure, I went out last evening. Launched at 330 and had lines set at 4ish. Was slow and didnt start marking much until about 630 then it was pretty solid action until 830 when we pulled lines. No big kings but did get two shakers. Also 2 Browns and 4 lakers. Biggest was a 15.8lb Laker. All off spoons, green/silver was the hot colour with purple/black taking a couple fish also. We took 4 fish on dipsy, one on planer board and 3 on riggers. Dipsey was 300 back on #3 setting. Riggers between 50-70 ft over 90-140 fow. Not sure what its like in the mornings right now but there was a whack of biting flies out there. Had to enlist the help of bug spray.

Overall a solid night for 2 guys.

Salmon can be caught all day long. IMO they bite best at dusk/dawn but do turn on sporadically through out the day. Most of my biggest fish have been caught around noon. Many days they will slide deep after the sun is up (especially bluebird days) so adjust your techniques accordingly. The best time to go is whenever you can dude.

Hey Dave, check the solunar tables.

When the major bite is late in the afternoon I have had some awesome afternoons from 4 to 7 pm.

Thanks for the help guys.

By the sound of it, I'll give her a whirl again this year and by the look of the other threads, I better get out there soon. Now to find time after work and between the boys soccer games and my wife's work schedule and...

Dave

Bass (green carp) for guys that can't catch walleye. Ok I need to confess before it hits the tabloids. I havent targeted bass since I took my fishing training wheels off back in 1980. This past friday while enjoying the company of a lil lady as we kayaked a local reservoir i armed myself with a spinning rod and a hula popper. Of course I was trageting walleye ;) but all these dame smallmouth kept getting in the way
