Couple of questions for you. What size rod do you use? I imagine that it may be a bit hard using a 7 footer out of a boat that is so small, it would be tough to land the fish. Also do you recommend a sit in or sit on type? Thanks.

That is really cool. I am hoping to have my first trip out there this summer. Is the launch an Huyck's suitable for a 19' boat? What is the exposure like if things get rough?

You can't launch a boat from Huycks point, there's a small trail that leads to the water and a steep bank which is ok for a kayak or canoe. Closest boat launch is in Wellington which is about 17-18 km from where I was fishing. Not much shelter out there from the wind so you have to be really careful when heading out and checked multiple weather forecasts and have the appropriate safety gear. I'm thinking about picking up a portable VHF radio as I've started fishing the bigger water this year.

I use a 7 foot medium heavy rod rated for 20# test, It's not really the ideal salmon rod but works well for me out of the kayak. The longer rods get in the way with limited space but a 7 footer seems to work well.

I would like to use a sit on top kayak for lake Ontario as they are self draining and therefore safer in bigger waves but I have a sit in kayak made by heritage that's getting old and needs to be replaced. Ideally I would using one of these http://www.hobiecat.com/kayaks/mirage/pro-angler/ or another Hobie with mirage drive.

Ya that was me, got one brown and a lake trout early around 8, no salmon this time.

Saw quite a few caught in the morning then it seemed to shut right down, didn't see another fish caught until I left around noon.

I used to launch my 14' aluminum with a 9.9 ate Huycks point and head out to Scotch Bonnet and I thought I was crazy.
