Good day,

The family and I are heading to the Bay all next week, it's a yearly event. Just in the process of getting a new fishfinder/gps combo. I'm looking at the Lowarance Mark-4 combo.

Does anyone know what the basemaps are like on these units for the Bay? Do I need to purchase the navionics chip?

any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Lowarance Elite-4 Gold Fishfinder/Chartplotter, works great for my needs (So far I've only used it for BOQ), it already has the chip for Canada in it. Most of the big shops (BPS, Gander Mountain,CT) will have to order it in as nobody had any in stock. I ordered mine in Kingston and took 2 days, manual can be confusing but once you start playing around with the pages and settings you can pick it up quick. You also get a 1 year free updates with it as well. Hope this helps.
Tim

Thanks for the reply walleye angler. So am I correct in saying we'd need a chip for the BOQ, or the installed maps are good enough?

thanks again

Yes you need a chip for the BOQ for any info on depths and such. The gold edition has the chip in the box when you buy it.
