Just took a drive to Deseronto to check on ice, did not see one icefisherman in sight, guess there is not much ice as of yet, anyone know about haybay area or big island?

Mr. Mckeown

I must have been driving right behind you.

There were two ice huts approx 200 yds out from
main boat ramp at park.

Someone must have been out early this morning
about a 1km before the bridge. Fresh tracks and holes.

I see by your profile that you retired from DuPont. I'm
still there. My earliest retirement is 2019. Thats if it around
that long.

See you out there,

Ice is good on the West end of the bay. Several huts are near the bouys at the mouth of the Trent. Fish Finder charters has some huts out. Turner's Tackle, Carrying Place, has minnows in stock. Usually first ice produces big fish in the mouth of the Trent and off Weese Side Rd, on the South side of the Bay.

was at the boat launch near shermans point till tuesday. About 5" of ice. 2 other parties out there....one right in the middle. No fish of any kind for us or the people in the middle. They fished from 8-5 and got nothing, not even a perch......us either. Huffs warf produced a couple small walleyes for the other party.

Hey Slim,

Shermans point seems to have a history of being either
hot or cold. Last year it was ice cold. Two & three years ago it
was one of the places to be. In the past if it started out good
at first ice it remained good for a number of weeks. Since your
experience on first ice was no fish, I predict that the fishing will
be slow in that area.

Huffs has always been better than Shermans point. I can imagine
schools of walleye moving up and down the long reach all winter
long. With Shermans, the fish are swimming along these main
deep channels and need to go out of their way to swim over into
Hay Bay and into the area infront of the Shermans point ramp.

Sometimes shad are everywhere in the mouth of Hay bay during
the winter. The shad are hooked while you jig. This happened a
few years ago, and the walleye were at Shermans.

Good luck,

BATMAN 8)
