Meh, i'd much rather try for a pike or a walleye than a dead boot trying to spawn. The best way to catch kings from shore is to chuck glow spoons at night from a river mouth, not to harass them in the shallows with a roe bag...

They fight much better in open water and you might get a nice silver one too. Now is the time!

River fishing for me is mainly late fall/early winter for steelhead and Browns - now get out and try for those and once you get on to them you won't even care for them dirty spawining chinnies.

They are starting to stack around the tracks on the ganny. And if you wait til we have some good rain some nice rainbows and browns will be in the river as well. I checked with a landowner on shelter valley that let's me fish his property and nothing in yet. Cobourg creek has a few in around the mouth.

Does anyone know if the salmon have made their way up the river yet? I know they are in Oshawa creek, and the ganny in Port Hope. Figured they should be up the Moira any day now.

You may find that they take considerably longer to get into any of the quinte tributaries, not sure what that is about. Historically, i always fished the Ganny for a month before i started fishing the Trent or Moira. I think this is due to the water temps in the bay are far higher than the open lake. So picture the few that do spawn in the bay tribs staging in 25C water temps waiting for their magic temperature.... just my thoughts.

But... not sure if you have seen the water levels in the Moira lately. I don't even think a fish could get through all the weeds. It is plugged right now from side to side. you won't see anything for a while, or at least until we get some rain. Focus on the Ganny if you can, i heard they are hanging out around the mouth with quite a few being caught.

Good luck

The dam in Moira is right downtown Belleville. There is a bridge you can walk across the dam there. I seen a post that someone caught some this morning there ???!! hmmm

I would hit the Ganaraska and not bother with Belleville yet, way too early... Go to Port Hope, then downtown, follow the river to where it meets the lake... Personally, i like the marina side over the river side this time of year. Cast Cleo's, J13 Rapalas... and pretty much anything that looks and sounds annoying.

Good luck
