2 years ago :-) there's no way they would get to the first dam right now, a minnow would even be lucky !

nice fish, but its a shame cause most these fish are caught with big trebbles, awful to see a fish go its finals days like that.., but congrats on the fish man

Anyone catch any at that spot yet this year? I've seen one swimming around in the deep hole about a week ago, and have been told there are some rainbow trout in the river now too.

I went to the dam today on the Moira for a look but I didn't see any. That being said I couldn't see into the deeper pools because of the sun, even though I was wearing polarized glasses.

I spoke with one biologist on the west coast regarding the salmon in the Moira and Napanee Rivers and why they are so dark. His notion without being there, was that the short run from Lake Ontario was all that was required, for them to turn into a full spawning form thus making them darker and completing their journey faster. Made sense to me. Just an FYI having noted the photos.

I have to dissagree the salmon in the moria and napanee have a MUCH longer traveling route , then places like port hope which are directly on lake ontario .. Fish come into port hope 1 month before the moria and napanee .. not to mention that fish in port hope are chrome and are DIRECTY off lake o .. I belive the fish are much darker from staging alot longer and traveling much longer distance to spawn .. those pics were from the end of the run in moria .. If you go to places north of the 401 in port hope (which are closed now sept30) The Fish Are Just as dark as moria and napanee

those fish are going to get dark no matter what.. it is what happens to them as they near maturity and get ready to spawn... as early as aug you can see some of them already slightly darkening out in the lake and they get darker the closer they are to spawning then dieing.... how far they travel up river only relates to how much time they have left before the spawn and death.. you can fish in oct and nov in harbors or creek inlets where many salmon still are and they will be black as the ace of spades.. steelhead turn dark also when in spawing ... but those that survive (which is most) will travel back downstream enter the lake and turnsilver again..
