My buddy and I got a few more of the early geese last night. We set out 9 dekes and called in a few in close enough for a couple of suppers. You gotta like this early season.

Good shooten men !! I see what the problem is , you are going out at night , they are a lot easier in the day. Lol.
It is funny how you can take 2 identical geese and clean them both and one might be fairly tender after you cook it and the other is as tough as nails. Although cooked the same way. Man if only they tasted like Grouse.

So what you're saying is midnight isn't the best time??? Isn't that's what headlamps are for

No worries, two geese were taken around 5:30 on their way out to the fields and the other three around 7:30 coming back in. I do need to go talk to some farmers about getting into their fields though.

My friend is going to send me a pate' recipe he's been bragging about for a couple of years now. Something to do with boiling them with onions and mace. I'm going to try it and I'll pass it along if it's as good as he says.

It is funny how in the past few years goose hunting has become so popular. When I first started field hunting geese about 13 years ago. You could get permisson in every field that had geese. Now when you go ask , a lot of time the landowner say that they have guy's already hunting there. And have had 2 or 3 other people ask them as well and where were you guy's 10 years ago lol.
The Pate' sounds interesting , we almost need a thread with different receipes in it.

Congrats again on the geese , I have not tried the afternoon shoot in awhile. Seemed to work well for ya.
