Quinte Fishing

We are heading up moose hunting in a couple of weeks and always take up GMRS radios for keeping in touch. Problem is, they have such limited range anywhere except on open water. Are there any radios that work better in the woods and hills than the GMRS?

There really isn't anything better than GMRS radios that are legal options for you to use in the woods. The most common radio people will buy when looking for more power is a VHF marine radio. These are 5 watts over the 2 watts GMRS radios so they will have more power, however it is illegal to use these radios for anything other than maritime use. Don't qoute me but I have heard that the fine is in the $5000 range.

Industry Canada is reviewing the power output of the GMRS radios and they may be increased to 5 watts in the near future. So if you can wait it out another year or so you may have a much better legal option.
