Quinte Fishing

Hey guys I am getting excited for the fall fish and ice fishing season and am going to invest in a flasher this year and was wondering what kind to get? I have heard a lot of good things about a Vex and also the Hummingbird. Can you help me out with some pros and cons from people that have them? looking to spend around $400-500. thanks in advance Sunny

There are alot of views on both, you might want to type them into the search bar and you can read up on them, there are some who belive in just Vex and there are others open to other types lol, there is also the Lowrance X67 as well that is impressive. Myself I have a Humminbird 45 and love it, (but I've never used a Vex) Good luck.

There will be many different views on this. Depending on what you're fishing for, and how often, will probably determine what you want. I would post your question on the Radioworld forum, or give them a call and explain what your needs are, and they should be able to tell you what unit suits you best. I also have a Humminbird Ice 45, and love it. It's not top of the line, but not bottom, but it marks fish LOL.

Thanks guys would most likely only use it for fishing Walleye. I was thinking I was going to get a Vex but more and more people keep mentioning the Humminbird. Was just wondering what the difference would be.

In my opinion, they all do the same thing. Talk to a Humminbird guy, they'll say Humminbird, talk to a Vex guy, they'll say Vex. Lowrance, same thing. It's like the Ford/Chevy thing...LOL I'm sure no matter what unit you get, you'll be happy. The price range you're in, should put you roughly middle of the line, no matter what company you go with.

Marcum is putting out a really good unit as well.

I have a lowrance x67 ice machine, i used it out west to fish lake trout in deep water in cold lake, easy to use has flasher mode and scrolling screen. Its all about the brand name, dont think one is better then the other

If you have a boat you might want to consider a unit like the x67 which can also be used on that boat during the soft water.

Yep, exactly. I have a FL18, and I've used the lowrance units and 'birds too. They all do the same thing, look for features that will suit your style of fishing like zoom, move-able/adjustable zoom (wish mine had that, it's just the bottom 6 feet), max depth, selectable cone angle (wish I had that too), target separation, noise rejection (if you fish with others using flashers), etc. Having a flasher is a game changer for ice fishing.
