I haven't fished rice this year but fished Balsam for a few days with some success , just fish the weedlines casting cowgirls or other big inline spinners , or try trolling believers and Grandma's in the 20 - 30 ft depth's on the outside edges , You might see a lot of Muskie's Canada guy's up there this weekend, there is a Kawartha chapter outing on the chain , good new's is it's cold and the Tourist's should be off the water which will help keep the floating weed's down , good luck and let us know how you make out :D

I've never targeted Muskie on Rice because I'm not really equipped for them beasts, but have caught a few incidentals. Gore's Landing area is where I caught them. I'm guessing between 10-12 fow cause I was fishing for walleye/bass at the time. Go left out of Gore's Landing boat launch and you should find weeds down that whole shorline. If you're looking for deeper water as Trophy Hunter mentioned above, again go left out of Gore's Landing, and there is a stretch of 17-22 fow right down the middle heading towards Bewdley. Don't know if these are "Prime" muskie locations, but have caught a few there.

Google "Rice Lake Fishing Maps" and there will be a few maps showing muskie locations.

Hope this helps

I would hit the big shoals and islands in seymour lake, and troll the weedlines in the narrows east near trent river village and hastings, but it's a good ride from rice.

Hi

Spend your time working the mouth of the Ontonabee area, up in the river a kilometer or two and work the weed edges and tips of islands, Sheep, Sugar and Black. Start throwing stuff with gold, copper and brass in it. They are there!

I've never been anymore than about a 1/4 mile up the river from the mouth. Everytime I try to fish the mouth, or just inside, it's like the 401. I'm usually in there fishing for bass with the electric, and boats are zooming by, or the bigger boats are making huge wakes at slow speeds. I understand that it's a passageway way for boats, and I'm not complaining, I just avoid the area. Probably worse in the summer. Maybe not so bad this time of year.
